Daniel Boyd, a freight broker from Alabama, has entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors after admitting that he had bribed two officials with the National Guard to award military contracts to carriers that he represented.
In exchange for ensuring that the transportation contracts under his control went to Crimson Express, the unnamed Guard official listed in court documents as K.T. was offered a job with Boyd once he left the Guard. Boyd also paid him about 50% of the commission on the deals.
The second Guard official, Timothy Wooten, made sure to award his contracts to U.S. Transport, another one of the companies Boyd worked with, in exchange for 25% of the commissions that Boyd received.
Totaling $441,698, the two contracts netted Boyd a commission of more than $150,000. Of that money he paid more than $20,000 to K.T. and almost $30,000 to Wooten.
Information on the plea agreement has not been released, but Boyd was initially charged with two counts of bribery and two counts of fraud.

Business as usual
ACES says
Wow! Dirty deals by a broker!? I’m shocked… Pfft.
Rodney says
Lmao! Sounds like business as usual!
What would be really shocking is to hear about
a broker who is honest and fair and played
by the rules. Now that would be news worthy!

Was Danny Boyd a real broker?….or was he an agent of the Carrier ?
Guys…there are some fair and honest brokers out there, and we sure catch hell for the bad ones.
Trust me….I have some “truckline stories”.
But this last year, the culprits seem to be factoring companies. Like a factoring company in my own city holds my checks for 5 days before they deposit them so they can go over the 31 day mark
to charge the carrier money money. Here’s something else you don’t know. Factoring companies
do not release their invoicing to the broker (email) until after 4pm…even late in the night. They
date the invoice that day, knowing full well brokers will not be able to mail it til next day…picking up a day against the carriers. And you should see how many invoices come to my email late on Friday. (From 4pm to late in the night) This way the factoring companies pick up 3 days (Friday, Sat. Sun).
And the factoring companies send in amounts from $10K to $20K to their organization they belong to. So the worse that can happen is a factoring company loses its membership. Its like
the fox guarding the hen house.

Most trucking companies that’s normal business to companies for contacting to them . Vendors do the same to the company management. I was management for a ltl company and was offered restitution if I used their services .I declined their offer I don’t believe my counterparts did. They typically pay in free casino comp. Play and you win the amount . Also that’s how some gvt. Reps. Like OSHA and DEP are taken care of. .it’s no surprise they get caught on occasion. It is more prevalent than you might want to believe.

I say do away with the brokers altogether. Problem solved more money to the carrier more money to the driver, I also think the government should go back to regulating rates and pay, if you work on a military base you have to pay your worker’s a base pay and believe me its a lot higher than you’ll find off the base.
