Volvo announced last week that they will be recalling over 6,000 trucks due to possible errors on vehicles that could lead to brake issues and an increased crash risk.
The voluntary recall will affect 6,271 Volvo trucks manufactured between April 11th, 2012, and September 30th, 2016. Affected models include certain model year 2013-2017 VNL, VNM, and VNX trucks.
In the recall notice, Volvo explained that the electric air dryers on some of the trucks are set too low – approximately 1/3rd the required volume – to keep condensation out of the air brake system. As a result, oil and water could contaminate the system and affect brake performance during certain weather conditions.
Dealers who sold the models being recalled were alerted on December 22nd, and Volvo says that affected truck owners will be notified by February 17th.
If your truck is recalled, Volvo says that certain aspects of the trucks’ vehicle control modules will be reprogrammed and some air dryer filters may need to be replaced.
