A truck driver has been sentenced to prison for failing to disclose prior accident history to his carrier when filling out his job application.
The driver, Arnold Williams, was in a fatal crash that killed one and injured three more. As a result of the crash, the driver was terminated from his job and charged with reckless homicide and possessing an open alcohol container.
Then, just a month after being fired, he applied for a job at a different carrier, but neglected to list his previous accidents, including the fatal one that got him fired from his last job. The new carrier hired him, only to find out later what had happened.
Williams was sentenced to six months in prison including time served and three years of supervised release for lying on his job application and will remain in custody while he is awaiting trial for the additional charges.

some thing is not right, part of this story is missing i hope. you can not be locked up for lying on a job application. there has to be some parole violation committed some where.
TripleDigitRide says
EZ,
You are misinformed. It seems as though you’re not aware that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration requires all drivers sons is close any and all previous accidents on driver employment applications. You can very much be arrested and convicted for making false statements on a commercial driver employment application. It’s a federal requirement.
Douglas Kirk says
The feds require an application to be kept in the driver’s file, but they don’t have any rules beyond possible termination for omissions or false statements. I suspect there is a lot more to this story.
John says
^^^ That portion in the middle makes no sense. I guess you were trying to write “All drivers disclose”?
steve says
I thought you were wrong, but I couldn’t find a blank application that states “lying on this application is a crime, punishable by so and so time in jail”. All the apps I saw said that lying was grounds for termination.
I think his license may have been disqualified, and that was the reason.
Ted says
I guess the carrier he went to after the accident failed to do their part in processing his application. Didn’t they check references, DAC….ect? What a complete idiot…drinking and driving!
Dave Stout says
I agree 100%. So the carrier hired him without a background check. Good job, NOT!
KW says
Interesting how the court system moved faster to convict him for lying on an application than they did for his reckless homicide. Just glad he is off the road.
I know the red tape of government bureaucracy moves slow, but shouldn’t an accident like that be on his driving record within a month of its occurrence? I wonder how hard the company actually looked.
ASATT says
The fatal accident won’t be apart of his record until he is convicted and sentenced…”innocent until proven guilty”
HEGOTWHATHEDESERVED says
He shouldn’t even think about trying to get back into a truck..
What a dumbass, justice was served in this case, drunk driving a RIG seriously? I’m not a advocate of incarceration, but if this guy did do time only 6 months regardless if it was for the application or not, he killed people while drunk, anyone else in that situation would have had manslaughter charges and done serious time.. It is a slap on the wrist, he must have had a really good lawyer to still be out and have the ability to apply for a job
Samuel Barradas says
He isn’t out of jail, and he still faces reckless homicide charges. The prison sentenced discussed in this article was for falsifying his job application.
From the article: “Williams…will remain in custody while he is awaiting trial for the additional charges.”
Kajidono says
He had to be out of jail to apply for and get the new job in the first place though. I mean, he actually had the money to bail himself out on a reckless homicide charge? And when you bail out, they generally don’t want you leaving the area, for a job or otherwise.
sawbuddy says
How about these companies that lie, they should
Get some jail time also but then they wouldn’t have
any recruiters.
Tim says
Same thing they got Martha Stewart for except she wasn’t applying for a job.
