Trucker Clinton Blackburn is being called a hero after he intervened to save the life of a Kentucky jailer who had been transporting a prisoner when he was attacked.
Blackburn was driving his rig in central Kentucky when he noticed a sheriff’s cruiser swerve and come to an abrupt halt on the side of the road. Concerned, Blackburn pulled his truck over and was walking up to the vehicle when the door was flung open. When he got closer, he saw that the juvenile inmate in the back seat had his arms through the safety divider and had put the officer in a choke hold.
“When I broke his choke hold, he went for the gun,” said Blackburn in an interview with WKYT, a local CBS affiliate. Blackburn was able to prevent the inmate from firing the weapon while the officer caught his breath and was then able to help subdue the young man.
While Blackburn is being called a hero, he refuses the title, saying that the police officers and jailers are the real heroes who put their lives on the line every day.
When asked how he felt about putting himself in harm’s way to help someone else he said “All I could think about was getting that man home,” and “I was willing to give mine to save his.”

That’s an awesome story. He is a hero. It does make me take pause and wonder if I would have stopped to investigate. ?.

That’s okay, Dan, the driver behind you probably will 🙂 But I think you might surprise yourself with a split second decision. As a female, maybe I don’t always have the confidence in a dangerous situation, but I couldn’t live with myself if I didn’t try. A good shot of adrenalin can take you a long way!

Nice to hear a positive story regarding a driver. I have been around trucking and law enforcement all my life. Most things you hear about interaction between truckers and law enforcement is negative. This fellow is def a hero if he thinks so or not.

I thought that we had another hero on our hands but you and others are re-running a story from March of last year. I remember it well.

Well, that’s embarrassing. You’re absolutely right, this occurred in 2014. I was fooled by the San Francisco Globe article which was dated February 2015. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
Denise says
It’s ok anyway for us who had not heard about him. Good job driver.
