For a professional driver, there are few circumstances in which failing to look after your freight is acceptable, but getting shot in the face is definitely one of them. Despite having met that exact criteria, 66-year-old driver Nick DiGregorio placed a call to his dispatcher to let him know that he’d be leaving his truck behind… just until he could get a bullet removed from his face.
DiGregorio was pulling up to a red light in Philadelphia when he thought he heard gunshots.
“But I wasn’t sure if they were firecrackers,” he said in an interview with the Philadelphia Daily News. “As I was coming to a halt, I saw a car turn onto 9th with a man on foot chasing and shooting at them.”
One of the bullets went through his windshield, through his upper lip, ricocheted off a tooth, and ended up in his upper-left cheek. The shock and speed of it kept DiGregorio from feeling any pain or even realizing what had happened until he saw the blood.
As other bystanders began to surround his truck, DiGregorio was able to place a call to 911 and then decided that he should probably call his company.
“I still had freight on the truck,” he said. “I didn’t want the truck to be abandoned.”
“I don’t think it’s really hit me altogether yet but another couple inches the bullet would have hit my throat, or my brain or my heart,” said the Vietnam veteran and father of five. “I don’t think I really feel the magnitude of what happened yet.”
Doctors say that they plan to wait for a few weeks until the swelling in his face has gone down before trying to remove the bullet.

Yes God help us all out here, another reason to have a really good dash cam on board to catch things that would help us if ever we needed the legal systems help.

Nick the Lord was with you that as he is every day. I wish you all the best. I am trying to curb my anger, that subjects can run down the street and shoot discriminately. Makes me want to become a police officer again.
