On July 26th, 2005 I received a ticket in the state
of Virginia for speeding. I was rolling down a hill
in a 65 mph governed truck and was caught running
80/65. So, you say? What is the problem...
you got busted, baby, eh? Yes, I WAS rolling
and not paying attention and was caught red-handed,
true. BUT, here is the problem...
AFTER having a perfectly clean record for MANY, MANY
years the State of Virginia STILL saw fit to place
7, that's right! 7 point
s (out of 12
allowed) on my license for my very first offense!
What is the deal with this? There was only one car
around for many miles (no traffic at all),
the sun was shining, no rain, no
construction, nothing but wide open roads
and beautiful scenery. Yet with Virginia STILL
putting 7 points on my license for this you would
think I was slobbering out the window, in
heavy traffic, riding on someone's butt,
swinging a lasso, screaming out YEEHAW,
running over little 'ol ladies, etc.
Of course, I could see hittin
g me hard IF I
had myriad tickets on my record before this incident
BUT I have almost 12 years (well over 1,000,000
safe miles) in a truck with NEVER one
accident and NO tickets for many years now. The
punishment for this offense is ASININE!
What is America coming to ne
xt? If I were
to steal a piece of candy would they chop my hand
off? I am licensed out of the State of Tennessee
and called them to inquire about this ridiculous
punishment. What did they tell me? They said, ["
we just do what Virginia tells us to do and how many
points to put on for the offense" ], as they
were saying this I was thinking that I should be
glad they didn't tell TN to hang me or I'd be
swinging from a noose before sunset!
For those of you reading this wondering WHY
truckers are so stressed out, bitter,
tired, having a feeling of "hopelessness"
(feeling they can't win no matter how hard they
try), drive so aggressively, and basically
do not give a darn anymore... NOW you know
why.
Truckers today, including me, feel like they are
"sitting ducks" just waiting to have their wallets
"ravaged". It is increasingly becoming "not worth
it" out here. I will quit this business myself
sometime in April of 2006 as I just cannot take this
treatment anymore. More and more you will see this
trend, those who DO care will leave being replaced
by newer drivers who do NOT.
This situation will only exacerbate as our country
becomes more "Communistic" in it's practices. Heck,
even Stalin would be proud of America today! Total,
absolute power is being sought AND is being given to
American authorities ESPECIALLY regarding truckers
in America today.
View the letters sent to me for, remember, my
1st offense.
