Coolers How Big

Question for those of you that have coolers in your rigs

How big?
Electric or regular?

I have been looking at electric ones (like coleman etc) about 40 quart size. Is this too big, not big enough. Any electric ones better than others?

thanks

Here is a list of 12 Volt Coolers we have for sale on The Truckers' Report. i like the Coleman, personally: Coleman 12 Volt Cooler which will do you very well on the road, had one for many years. You do NOT want an electric one, better to get a 12 Volt one and get a 12 Volt AC to DC Power Adapter if you want to plug in at the house...much safer!

one note...

It is better to have a small cooler full than a large cooler empty....in terms of temperature fluctuation.

I had a 40qt cooler, it was pretty good, but I filled it with allot of canned goods to add a ballast.

It died, so I bought a smaller 23Qt cooler anticipating my upcoming move out of the otr lifestyle. I find it is big enough.

Currently there is 12 cans of soda, 6-.5l bottles of water, 1 container of parmesean cheese, and other various condiments. It has plenty of room for more stuff.

Stay away from the silly glass doors, as they will be less insulated.

I run a 14-can-of-pop cooler currently. Even when I had the micro-fridge size, I rarely put anything but Mountain Dew in it anyway. In my opinion, truck food should be able to exist without a cooler.

It depends on your own lifestyle. If you want to go all Iron Chef out of your truck, you'll want an actual refrigerator. If you just want to keep your pop cold, a smaller one should do the trick.

I was thinking of one, but with all the butter, cheese, and pizza fillings in the sandwich maker, I figured I would be dead of a heart attack before 1 yr otr....

I have

12v cook pan, I line it with alum foil, it will cook soup in 10 min, boil water within 15 min...works well.

90W slow cooker for my inverter, it is small, but good to cook small roasts in..I mostly used it for soup before the above cooker. I just used it to put 1lb of roast beef slices in it with 1cup of aujouis for beef on wick style sandwiches...after the beef is thoroughly cooked it lasts 3-4 days in the small cooler.

A hibachi style propane grill is also liked, I cook burgers, steaks, etc on it in warmer weather.
