Walmart at midnite

I stopped into the Walmart in Martinsville WV the other nite late to grab some useless junk. I was at the checkout and the kid in front of me wearing camo pants, comabt boots and a teeshirt had about 8 boxes of ammo. 9mm, 40 s&w and some 30-06 rounds and nothing else to buy. Pays with a credit card and walks out. The cashier never asks for ID or nothing. I get to the register and asked her if she'd seen that guy before and says no. So I ask her if she thought that was a little odd. She shrugs and says what do I care. I tell her you will when hes on the news for doing something stupid. Is it me or was there some strange about that? Maybe theres a resonable explanation for it but after what happened at Virginia Tech you kinda start noticing things like that.

I'm with you Smuf. That's the problem people hide their heads in the sand and when something terrible does happen you hear the same ones say "What a shame why didn't anyone notice anything."

I was trained as a cashier at Wal-Mart and we're pretty much not allowed to question anyones purchase, no matter how odd it may seem. People have a nasty habit of taking things the wrong way and running to the first lawyer they can find.

As for ammunition, as long as you are at least 18, you can buy as much ammo as you want, there are no restrictions.

Yeah...so?

Someone's buying ammo. Big hairy deal. I buy ammo. Sometimes I buy a lot of it. That's because I have--GASP--a gun.

Sometimes, I even buy my ammo at Wally World. And I might just go in there dressed in ripped up jeans and an old Sisters of Mercy tour T-shirt because that's how I roll on the weekends when I don't have to try to look halfway presentable. Plus, I have a shaved head, tattoos, and a smile that makes people nervous.

Should Da Gubmint put me on some list somewhere for buying ammunition, or for exercising my Constitutional right to bear arms? Shall we call out the SWAT team because I'm making a perfectly legal purchase?

Good grief. I weep for this country.

That wouldn't last 30 min up target shooting

I buy alot more than that when I go to the rock pits and practice shooting.

And I live in Oregon.

In my area, no one would have looked twice at a young guy in camo gear buying a bunch of ammo.

Honestly? I think I would have been more suspicious of a stylishly dressed nerdish-looking kid buying a bunch of ammo... or a kid that looked like s/he didn't know one end of a gun from another.
