Cool National Parks during summer

Here's a question:

I recently switched employers for better pay and hours. But the one problem is that my vacation time comes in August instead of in October as in my last job. Here’s the snag: the wife and I have a timeshare arrangement that sets us up at national parks like Yosemite and Yellowstone. In October, they’re great to visit, but in August, most national parks are sweltering grab-##### packed with tourists. Anyone know of some good national parks that aren’t totally packed in the summer?

It's a hard question cause the national parks are all so different. It depends on what you like. Example: Olympic national park rarely gets busy due to its size and everything, but there's not as much "touristy" action there as in places like Yosemite or Smoky Mtns (both of which get really busy).

Hah...funny, it looks like they censored you. I'll have to watch my language on this board.

Judgeing by where you go I would suggest if you can afford it, try
Alaska. I've never been there, but I sure want to. National parks
not packed in August? Sure but you don't want to go there cause
its too hot. Everglades and Grand Canyon come to mind. Once
the value of the dollar goes back up I would check out Canada also.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Alaska sounds great, if that's not too crowded. I agree about the heat; I've been to the Grand Canyon in the middle of August! Hopefully I can make a timeshare exchange of some kind -- they can be pretty tricky and difficult sometimes.

My wife and I went to the Grand Canyon a couple years ago in the month of july, we had to wait 45 minutes in the car just to get into the park! It was hot too, must of been in the upper 90's (if not hotter), it was well worth it in the end though.

Yeah, that's the other thing I was going to mention...timeshares can be really difficult and often aren't worth the money they wind up draining. When I started taking vacations at different times, my old timeshare became less and less available. It sounds like you also tend to vacation in the summer, just like everyone does, which makes timeshare weeks more competitive. I found my weeks so impossible to bank I wound up going through Timeshare Relief. But I never really tried to exchange mine through one of those big exchange companies...some people have success with that, hopefully you'll be one of them.
