Had the day off today, so decided to go out for a small drive. Took a drive down by the port to check to see if anything interesting was around. When I got there to my surprise, there were 2 lake freighters. One was docked at one pier another was docked at another. The second one was the more fasinating of the two though. They were unloading steel pipe from off the freighter right onto waiting flatbed trucks. The pipes were atleast 40'-50' in length, and 1'-2' wide. It was kinda cool to see maybe 10 otr flatbedders on the pier at the same time. Some would be loading right along the side of the boat, some would be checking their loads, and of course empty ones coming in and turning around. Made for quite a busy scene. I believe if I heard correctly on the news the pipe was heading down to some place in chicago (couple days ago a worker fell into one of the bays, but he's okay ,that how I found out where it was going the media acted like it was the end of the world) It must suck though for the drivers especially if their paid by the mile it's only around 100 miles give or take to chicago from milwaukee. Even if the can make a couple round trips a days, it still must not too good for them. Unless their paid by the load, who knows? Well just wanted to share my adventure with you.
