Stupid cop

Well had a nice chat with some knucklehead this week. I delivered in downtown chicago thursday and was dispatched to load in elk grove villa friday morning. Decided to slide on in there to see if I could get loaded for home thursday night. Got loaded and was needing to shower and bed down for the night so I headed to monee il. There is a couple truck stops there that pack out early and there is a dead end street that goes right beside them. So I went to the end of it and turned around and parked behind about 20 trucks on the dead end street. I saw a cop with his lights and siren on trying to wake drivers as I was walking towards the shower. He was beating on doors trying to wake drivers. He sees me and jumps in his car and drives down to me. Tells me move your truck or get a $100.00 ticket. I told him I am out of hours and need to shutdown and shower.

He tells me move or get a ticket. I asked him why do you think all these trucks are sitting here? Truckstops are all full and there are no houses on this dead end street. He says move it. I say would you rather I went out on the road and ran over some family in a car, because I am to tired to drive? We lock horns and he said I will have your truck towed. I end up going to burger king down the road and walk back to the truckstop. What a jerk! He was writing tickets and putting them on trucks when I walked by him.

Unfortunately....yes. Even though he (the driver) "should" have shut down sooner.

And I do the same. Especially when they proudly wear a patch/decal that states plainly "Serve & Protect".

The only person/purpose this officer was serving & protecting was the state/cities need for cash flow. There was no immediate threat to life, limb, or property. Until the driver fired his truck up.

We can argue this one til the cows come home...but until you can plainly point out the "serve & protect" part of this scenerio..it falls on deaf ears. Albeit he may have been protecting the drivers from a potential robbery, later that evening...I doubt it.

I know the area. The trucks parking there were not a problem till the housing began to build up. The people that live around the truck stop really want the trucks gone.

The local was truly only doing his job because of the residents demands.

Unfortunately some drivers don't have to deal with the area of Chicago and the limited truck stops that are available. Just wait, if the logs rules change it can't be good.

Smiley 5 Stupid Cop(s)

Stupid Cops:
1. No one said you had to be smart.
2. A cop is the hired gun for the political elite of a jurisdiction. Few smart people will find themselves in such an unenviable position.
3. Even the cops with some gray matter find that they're relegated to being little more than a "Revenue Ranger" helping to fund the political elite. Still not too smart.
4. Going about rousting and fining mostly harmless, hard working truckers, while the crackheads and gang-bangers run loose causing mayhem. Yep. Stupid cop.

You should have asked Barney, "to whom do I make the check payable?" The stop payment fee would have been worth every penny.

I was a police officer for over 3 years and i can tell you right now every one of those truckers can get out of those tickets. unless there is a posted sign that states you are not allowed to park there and you are not blocking traffic flow then he has no legal right to ask you to move. if you are out of hours then he is asking you to break the law. most city cops don't know a thing about log books or hours. IF he makes you move then he has to give you a police escort to where he wants you to go.
I had this problem once outside of Atlanta. if it goes to court they would win easily.

Oh please! They are there to serve and protect the locals, you know, the ones who pay their salaries and the ones who are making complaints about noisy trucks being parked in their neighborhoods lowering their property values. How many truckstops and places where trucks can fit into do you have to visit to realize that they have proven themselves to not giving a rats rump about pooping in their own nests? These cops are protecting and serving. The "I am out of hours" defense should not protect a driver parked illegally anymore than a driver who's speeding to get somewhere faster to save their hours. I seemed to be able to operate in that area for quite a few years without having to pretend to run out of hours and have a whizzing contest with a cop on the side of the street. The driver somehow managed to find parking after the "event" So was there no parking, or just not close enough to make the driver happy. I am ashamed of most of the trucking areas anymore and am VERY glad that I do not have to frequent them.

Oh give me a break. Pleeeez! You build next to a truckstop, your property value is squat to begin with. That's why you bought it...it was dirt cheap! And the only way you can sell it, is force the trucks OUT (along with the truck stop) to increase values. Developers call the shots...not the general tax paying public.

We just completed elections here in my hometown. UNFORTUNATELY, the ONLY people qualified to hold Chief of Police, refused to run because of the political BS.

The current Chief, ran for Constable, and won. The previous Chief, had returned from Iraq. And flat out refused to even consider the job.

MY COMMUNITY lost 2 very valuable public servants to POLITICAL BS, such as selective enforcement.

Danc694u...
don't waste your time with Fozzy. whatever you say he will take the opposite view. if you switch to his side he'll switch back over to yours.
see it's extremely important to him to contradict everything you say. makes him feel good i think. maybe he should get cable or something.
