Angry Insurance Sucks! What Rip Offs!

[begin rant}

Ok, so here is the story. I use Progressive for insurance and have for many, many years. They are GREAT...they are NOT the problem...the whole insurance industry is a scam. Here's the thing...I bought my little brother a car for $1000 from a friend at work. So, of course, he needs insurance for it (he lives with me now as my Aunt kicked him out, LOL) so I called Progressive and they told me they HAVE to put him on my policy. I said, why? They said anyone in driving age HAS to be declared. Sigh. Ok, I pay $200 every 6 mos because I have a good record and a 95 Buick with 119,000 miles on it. The car I bought him was a 96 Buick with 88,000 miles on it (4 door and all). Dudes, the car was ONLY $1000 cash...know how much they added to my freaking bill?

$700 every 6 months! So now my bill is $914, every 6 months, for a damn car that cost $1000. ($1800/yr!!) Of course, HE is paying his $700, but that really is damned ridiculous, eh?

{end rant}

On the bright side, I bought a new set of wheels on Friday afternoon, which I haven't picked up yet but will in the next few days. I decided to investigate insurancee options, and sat here at the computer and found insurance for it.

In the old days, I remember going to the office of the local insurance guy to get insurance. You sat there as a quivering teenager, and knew that the only thing holding you back from being on the road was this old fart you had in front of you. And he had a memory like a steel trap, remembered the time you hit a home run on the local field that broke a window, because he paid the claim on the window. And now was his chance to eke out revenge. That window was somehow gonna be figured into your insurance rate for your car, and you wuld be paying for that window agin and again, every time you paid your car insurance.

And he always quoted a rate as if he knew exactly how much money you made at your lousy little part time minimum wage job, and knew how to take away all your disposable cash. By the time he was done quoting your insurance rate, you knew that you were gonna eat damn few cheeseburgers at the local drive in, and there would be little money to buy gas for joyrides.

It's easier now, just get on line and get the coverage, print out the paperwork on your home computer. And you can shop around, not be restricted to the local guy in his office any longer.

Oh, man, do I hear you! Ok, we had Progressive when the boys got their permits for Drivers Ed. And guess what??? They wouldn't cover the boys, unless we added them to the policy. How much? $1400 / 6 months! We paid $378 / 6 months for two vehicles, one full coverage and the other liability only, before we added the boys.

Hubby and I have spotless records! I was like WTH??? So, I started calling around, AAA would insure them for no extra money until they got their licenses. Great, switched to them. That went great, up until our oldest got some violations. Don't even get me started on our local PD. LOL

So now we are back at progressive, and we have a mustang convertible, 91 with the meek 4 banger in it, just to putt around town. The cost for 6 months on that car??? $758/ 6 months! Yeah, we paid less for the dang car than we will pay for insurance on the car for a year!

You get dinged so bad for young drivers. Its a racket!!

The reason it's done on the computer now? Is because you can't put your hands around their throat this way.
