Lightbulb Support Causes -The Truckers Report WILL Help!

Hi all! I have made AfterShock a supporting member due to this:

I Support Victory Junction! So Does The Truckers' Report!

Also, Smurf-316 supports St Jude's Children's Research Hospital...

IF you support ANY cause that helps children, I will help you! I will set you as a supporter and you can display their link in your signature! Passionate about something? Let me know! I will do this for FREE to show my support for YOU and your cause! I reserve the right to deny ANY cause that I feel is not appropriate! Thanks!

thanks Wiseone.
I really need to get down to St. Jude's. haven't been there since my accident. i like to go about 3 times a year just to see the staff and meet some of the kids. it's tough though. i try not to get attached because they sometimes don't pull through. but how many would live without our help? I give so others may Live!

WiseOne,

It truley is an honor to be able to post on a site where there are so many compassionate and caring people. People who put others first and who go above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that others have what is needed in order to carry on their lives with dignity.

As a parent of one of those children that you, AfterShock, Smurf and others here support there simply aren't enough words in the written or spoken language for me ever to effectively express my gratitude for your kind gestures.

On days when breathing feels inpossible I can come here to read and post and know that hope is alive and shines bright.

Thank You All !

Kim

x MaN-O-MaN!
I don't know what to say.
Can y'all believe THAT?

And, I'm just a tad choked up. Ok, Ok,.....................
more than a tad.

T H A N K ~~ Y O U WiseOne, --- and all.

I profess to dislike kids. And you can ask my friend's great-grand twins (one of each) if that ain't twue. But, just betwixt y'all and me, it's really only a facade. Truth be known, I have a super big soft spot in my aging heart for children. ALL children.

That's why, when I learned about The Victory Junction Gang Camp, I was overcome by the whole idea of a place where seriously ill children can go to a camp in the beautiful Carolinas. What a treat!

Do y'all have a few minutes to spare here, right now? Sit-down, I'd like to tell you a little about The Victory Junction Gang Camp.

First off, it's free.
That's right, no cost to the child, at all.
Meds?
Free.
Medical treatments while there?
Free.
Supplied by volunteering specialists.
You see, the Camp has different ailments the children are afflicted with grouped to be there at the same time. And specialist doctors for that particular affliction are there during that time. The kids dig it because they're among other kids who WELL understand each other.

Bowling?
Free.
Swimming?
Free.
Fishin'?
Free
Horseback riding, thanx to the American Quarter Horse Association?
Free.
Clothing?
Free.
Arts & Crafts?
Free.

How did TVJGC come to be?
WoW!
I'm glad y'all asked.

Does the name Richard Petty sound familiar?
In NASCAR Racing circles, Richard is known as The King.
Richard's dad, Lee, started racing way back in the day, and then Richard took to the track, --- and Richard's son, Kyle, thereafter.

Kyle and Patti Petty had a son, Adam, and Adam grew up to be a fine lad, and a race car driver. He loved the children he visited in hospitals around the country, and offered ALL of his future winnings as collateral for a million dollar loan to start a camp for ill children.

Unfortunately, Adam was killed at a New Hampshire race track during practice, instantly, when his race car crashed hard into the wall at high speed.
But Adam's dream didn't die or end there.
Nope!
The Petty family stepped up.
Grandpa Richard, donated the property for the dream Camp.
Kyle and Patti got to raising the monies necessary to bring a dream to life.
And, I'm pleased to announce, they got 'er done, BIG time. Even more than anyone expected. And the million dollar donations keep comong in from NASCAR drivers like Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, and a bunch of others.

This has allowed the Camp to grow and provide room for even MORE kids. The whole NASCAR community rallies around this cause.
Kyle Petty hosts a Ride Across America motorcycle event every year and there's a waiting list of a mile long to donate the entry fee for a chance to visit some beautiful country.

Personally, I can't think of may things that would be any better of a tribute to Adam, than what his family has made possible.

Here's where y'all come in.
The Camp needs support, and any donations are appreciated, but that's not really what I came to tell y'all.
Love can mean Waaayyyy more than money.

My FIRST request would be for y'all's prayers for these kids and for the success of the VJGC. That's important, I think.
No, I BELIEVE.
Yes I do!

Second, if ANYBODY thinks they know of a deserving child, I ENCOURAGE you to make this Camp known to their parents and doctors! God Bless you for doing that. It may seem like a small thing to do, and maybe it is, but dad-blast it, it'll be a BIG thing to a little kid who sees mostly hospital walls. Come on folks! The beautiful Carolinas as opposed to sterile walls and stainless steel trays and coils tubes?
Riding horses and "Catch-Kiss-&-Release fishin'.
Sure beats a needle in the buttox ANY day.
I'm SURE about THAT!

Third, and maybe the most fun. Volunteers.
If anyone is able to volunteer their valuable time, I'm betting it would be VERY rewarding.
Can't manage time away from home to go TO the Camp?
No problemo!
Last year, I think it was, ...... ask Shandera, .... she participated in a call for, I think, knitted attire for the children and I think blankets. Like I said, Shandera is up on the details.
A knitting session with good company might just cause a spirit filled Christmas get-together to be sooo much more rewarding. And KNOW your efforts will be GREATLY appreciated.

Fourth, Even if y'all can't contribute, I hope y'all can find comfort knowing the children ARE being thought of and cared for by loving folks like yourselves. If that doesn't bring comfort to your hearts, well,.... I don't know what will.

The CHILDREN are our FUTURE.
I only hope their futures are bright.
And by the smiles I see in photos, I think that's their plan.

Thank y'all for "listening".
And THANK YOU Wiseone!!
You're a jewel!!
With a soft heart, I think.
I admire that.
Yes I do.

Folks, my name is Art
aka Shakey AfterShock.
Friend have been known to call me "Shockey".
I'll answer to that.
With a smile.
Ear to ear.
Yes I will.

Knitting/crocheting get-togethers ARE rewarding. I've participated in a few here. The one local church includes handmade scarves in winter packages for homeless kids in Philly... and while I've done most in my own home, I've been known to join the church ladies every now and then. (One of my bestest friends is a church lady. )

There's also Project Linus, which provides handmade "security blankets" to kids who are seriously ill or who've experienced trauma in their young lives.

There's just so much good out there, folks, and I also appreciate the forum's support of our members' efforts to have a positive impact on this world.

Thanks, WiseOne!

LOL, thanks all! I just like helping people help people when I can. And, those are two places that really do GOOD things for people. Some call me a butthole (sometimes I am), but I DO have a heart for kids...now yes they get on my nerves and I call them little ankle-biters, but heck I was one once too! HAHA.

Great idea and very well deserved areas for contributions!! We used to march for the St Judes fund when the kids were in school. I'll get back to ya after I get going better financially. I just sent all my money with my pastor to our orphanage in India. There are other areas I donate also.

Those kids tug at your heart strings and so nice to see ya'll support them. I was working with troubled kids with horses, then my daughter took over working with them and others this past Summer. My son in law wants to get certified to work with the handicapped children with the horses. I'm so excited for them!!!

Wow, its amazing to see all this love coming from here

Ask Attitude for more details about the kids and horses.
But don't mention you're a California Cowboy.

**End note to self**
