Stay OFF the ROADS!

Well, after weeks of getting drilled by my instructors and waking up in the middle of the night screaming "9th!!! NOOOOOO SPLITTER! SPLITTER!"........

GOT MY CLASS A TODAY!

Went ahead and got my Tankers and Doubles/Triples endorsements too (since it's free the first time when you get your license). They (Irving, TX DPS) do not allow anyone to take the HAZMAT test or start the background check until you have the hard copy of your license. So, since I'll be out on the road for at least a month when it arrives in the mail, I'll have to wait. Not a problem, my company gives you 90 days to get the endorsement.

Just a quick question though......Do other states require parallel parking as part of their road skills test? Passed it with flying colors, but, don't really see where it will ever actually be used.

not necessarily, the school i went to had what they called , crap i can't remember. but anyway, you basically had 3 barrels you started with the first right behind the trlr on dr side. you had to back between it and the middle barrel and back between the middle and last barrel without touching them or getting your tractor out of bounds on the sides.
it was basically a sightside then blindside parellel park.
BTW congrats on the new licence!

Well you could use it it in a situation like I witnessed this morning. 2:30 this morning driving north on I-95 on my way to work, 1 mile before exit 305 there is a rest area. I saw a CFI truck pull over on the shoulder of the get on ramp of the rest area and do a parallel parking manuever. Only trouble I had with it was when he started backing up and swung his cab out into the right hand lane of I-95. Good thing I was in my 4 wheeler and traffic was light. Congrats on the CDL.

Here in NC we don't have to parallel park to get a cdl. It is good to know how to do it though. You never know when you will have to. Congrats on getting your cdl. Good luck to you.

Many situations of which you may see a few are that you get to delivery late at night, gates are closed with no reasonable parking except outside in the street. Mostly in the cities, hours are over and some spots available. Get used to it, nice and slow does it, get out and look whenever in doubt. Make obscene gestures at impatient motorists. And like always, make sure you don't get into an accident, anything that keeps you from being at the wheel of that truck rolling is bad news.
