Mom ships 80,000 cans of Silly String to troops

10/16/07
Quote:
DEPTFORD TOWNSHIP, New Jersey (AP) -- After months of frustration, a mother of a soldier in Iraq has found someone to ship about 80,000 cans of Silly String to the troops, who use the foamy substance to detect trip wires on bombs.
I am so happy right now, I am shaking. I just think it's awesome that it's finally going," Marcelle Shriver said as boxes were loaded into a truck Monday afternoon.
The thousands of cans of Silly String are boxed and addressed to individual servicemen and servicewomen in Iraq. But since the string comes in an aerosol can, it is considered a hazardous material, and only certain companies can ship it.
Thom Campbell, one of the founders of Capacity LLC, a New Jersey-based shipping company experienced in hazardous materials, heard about Shriver's problem and decided to help out.
Shriver and Campbell communicated for weeks by phone and e-mail but met for the first time Monday when the boxes were picked up. Each praised the other for making the shipment a reality.

I was gonna say.......that would be one heck of a mess and one kick ### party but I see simple teenage toys can have some clever uses.

I remember when my oldest daughters best friend got sent to Afghanistan. The top of her wish list was for flea collars for dogs not cats. I'm think man they gotta a lotta dogs over there. I think not....nope they needed for around the bottoms of their pants.

Little Miss GI Jane, and yes boys she makes ole Demi Moore look like Barbie, heck if I was into chicks ida hit on her, some women just look dead sexy with no hair. I wonder what old Master Chief Harvey would say now!!!

Miss GI Janes says after you goop up yer legs so the buggers smoother if they get past the collar and tape and so they don't bite, ya then fold those pants this way then that way, use some good old fashion duct tape, slide into the boots, lace 'em, then use not 1 but 2 flea collars. One for the boot and one up a ways on the pants.

The reason she shaved her head she said is the fleas and lice are so bad you have to shave everything head to toe, guys or girls, to keep them away.

She's out of the Army now and home but in the Coast Guard Stationed here in the Bay Area. I tell ya though she is one tough chick and not one I'd never wanna mess with. Hummm might explain why she kinda disappears ever now and then.

We all KNOW all that silly string will not be used for bombs.......Those boys will use it to goof off. LOL
I say send another load to them ~anything to help them cutup and have a laugh for maybe 30 mins. They are still boys and need to destress.
Thanks to all the boys and girls who put thier life on hold and in danger for us to be able to sleep at night you are prayed for and loved for your sacrifice.

ps i say "boys" but I mean both
