Identity theft

Well folks if you think it won't happen to you then you are sadly mistaken. It just happened to me somehow they got my debit card information and drained my bank account plus another $500 or so on top of that.
When it rains it pours I'll tell you. We just moved, had tons of expenses moving and fixing our new place. I switched jobs, we got behind and have spent the last two months literally eating beans and rice in order to get caught up. We just got caught up last week and now this...
Is it time to say "why me" yet?

I am extreamly carefull, it doesn't matter. Most people are cared of internet transactions but the trth is the internet transaction are 10 times more secure than you run of the mill run to the store and use your credit card. The internet has fairly good encription technology. The brick and morter retailers are the ones who skimp on encription because of the cost. They transmit your information over wireless modems and all other sorts of stupid things.

That happened to me a few years back. Good news was, I was able to get every dime back from my bank, including the overdraft charges. All I had to do was file the police report and wait the two weeks while the bank investigated.

That happened to my mom after she went shopping for groceries. The bank called a few days later to tell her she had no money because i think 300 or so was with drawn. The bank investigated and gave her money back. strange thing is my neighbors sister knew some people that had the same thing happen to them when working at Ralphs. Needles to say everyone got fired and they got new card boxes.

How do you steal someone's debit card and use it? I hear comments on here about using it like a credit card? You can't do that here in Canada. To use your debit card, you MUST use your PIN or you cannot use it, period.

Can someone explain this to me please?

I hope your bank reimburses you very quickly!!

I would guess that wherever they went shopping (online most likely) did not require the special three digit code on the back. But other then that, they are NO different then any other visa card. You dont need a pin number unless you use the Debit feature of the card and not the Visa end of the card. They ask you credit or debate at the checkout. One processes like a atm with a pin number. no signature required. The other processes through the credit system and requires a signature.

Its easy to scam a credit card or even a debit card
When checking out of the store when the numbers come up to type in your pin number, just hit cancel and it will ask for a signature.
I do it all the time to get extra miles on my point card
