Help 2 Stay-cation..

Heard a new one today, a "Stay-cation'....taking a vacation at home with the high fuel prices!

Guess I'll have to catch up on my honey-do's...anybody else got some suggestions of keeping off the hwy's and having fun (remember, food, etc. also has gone up!)??

My Dad and I are still taking our annual father/son fishing trip to NE Ontario Canada...1,400 miles round trip. Been doing it for 15 years, and would still go if gas was $10 a gallon. My Dad is 78, and we'll keep going as long as he is able. There are some things you just can't put a price limit on, and that is one of them.

I have never been a big vacation guy
Mostly mix business trips with fun
But with the fuel prices the way they are going I feel this will be our future
I have read that people in other countries have been in awe of our ability to travel for vacation

No such thing anymore as a 'cheap vacation! Used to be family camping..but campground fees, fishing licenses, 'ice,' etc. makes it expensive these days.

I can keep pretty busy doing stuff locally (hiking, indian ruins, lava displays in Flag, etc) but the wife & kids want to travel! Wife wants relief from cooking..heh heh

We used to do "family" vacations, and I do mean Family. My kids, my sisters kids, and mom.

Generally, my baby sister handles the reservations with State Parks. Shopping around for locations and pricing. She's so tight she squeaks

Average cost of a cabin large enough to hold 10 people was $55 a day. We generally booked a week. We never booked on holidays.

We managed to get off for less than a $1000, for the whole week. Kids had access to canoes, jet skis, water slides, horses. And of course, emergency rooms.

Now days we might take a weekend (kids are grown). I can get a cabin for 2, for $30 a night.

It's not Cancun...But it is an enjoyable time

Find a nice holiday hotel with a swimming pool and a spa in the room. Stay for three or four days.
It doesn't have to be in a far-away place either -- it could be in your own home town.

And I hear it's cheap to fly to the gambling places -- and the rooms are reasonable. Y'all don't HAVE to gamble either. They have lounge shows and major celebrities, too.
Getcha a couple of those blue adult beverages with pieces of fruit and a little paper umbrella and relax.

Dare to be different.

Done that too! In fact, if youve been out West, used to be able to get a 4* room in Laughlin for $25/nite. Drinks were cheap; wife and I dont gamble much ($20/each), and River Walks, free tours, etc. do make it affordable!
