How utterly and completely screwed up is this?

I live in GA. So I go to get my CDL permit on Thursday 5/15/08. I pass everything, and then I am told I can't get it because of a suspension of my driving privileges in NC. I called NC and told them I haven't even been in the state of NC in 13yrs. Bingo. My privileges have been suspended in NC for that long. Turns out that I paid a speeding ticket 13yrs ago...but I paid it late. So my privileges were suspended for "failure to appear"(based on paying the ticket late) Mind you I have lived in GA, FL, and now back in GA...and had to change my driver's license all 3 times. So I pay a courier service $35 to go pay the $50 ticket that day. The NC DMV tells me that it will clear in their record right away, but to allow 24-48 hrs for the ticket to clear in GA's records. So here it is Tuesday approximately 48 (business) hours after the ticket was paid. My plans are to go to the DMV tommorow and pick up my CDL permit.
So I open the mail to see a letter from the DMV letting me know that due to my driving privileges in NC being suspended as of 5/15/08...my regular class c license will now be suspended on 6/5/08, unless I provide a letter of clearance from the DMV in NC. WHHHHHATTTTTTTTT?!?!?!??!?!?!
So me applying for a DL in 2 different states 3 different times and having no issues doesn't trigger anything to happen...but applying for a CDL automatically causes my regular license to be suspended!
Golly I want to punch something really hard right now.

The land of the free and the home of the screwed up bureaucrat.

My license was suspended in early 2006 for about 10 days, IN was paid by money order three weeks before the deadline, and would have been paid months sooner if they would have taken a check or credit card, they withheld that info from Iowa until the last day and sent it by mail. Iowa suspended my license, I got a heads up on it beforehand and was able to not get caught with a suspended license driving even a car, and I got it restored before the notice came from the Iowa DMV that I could now get my license back. I just renewed my license and the suspension is not on my MVR.

My wife never had hers suspended, but a letter from DE, which has its' traffic courts in PA threatened a suspension, she had to carry proof of payment everywhere for a few months even though it had been paid for more than a few months. Some of these bureaucrats see CDL, and they turn into enforcement automatons. They are like bulldogs that just won't let go.

Welcome to commercial truck driving

I had pretty much the same issue one time. Except ! MY state entered the ticket number wrong in the system, and when I did pay it. They refused to recognize the receipt.

2 trips to Illinois, 2 notorized statements, a DMV report from IL, and a copy of the actual ticket to SHOW them the error. And they flat refused to correct it.

I finally got it corrected. But it cost the hell out of me in lost wages.

I had a house purchase held up by NC because I was behind on child support. Behind on support to the wife I had reconciled with years before. I was behind in the amount of $0.00. Tried sending a check for that amount to no avail, sent a check for .01 but that was returned for not being an exact amount. Took about two weeks and many letters to get that resolved.

Yup...now I DO believe that. I got hit for 5 years back child support, from the collection services of our wonderful state.

The "staff member" who was handling my case. Was the very same one in court, the day the Judge raised my child support, and ordered me to pay it DIRECTLY to my daughters mother. Bypassing the collection agency.

I had all my cancelled checks...but damn!!!!

Come to think of it... looking at my post in this thread and a couple of others today. My entire life has been spent fixing someone else's screw up. Some I brought on myself. Others were handed to me.

Were spilt about two years until we pulled our collective head out of our butts, Back together about eight now. Always thought attached to that garter under her wedding gown should have been an instruction manual.
