Thumbs down Bottled Water--a waste of resources

This is one of my pet peeves, and many of the brands having French names didnt help. People have been weaned from the teat but not from the bottle. I see so many folks (young & old) who carry these bottles around like pacifiers.

Read somewhere that bottled water costs more than gas, at about $10/Gal!

My neighbor has a Reverse Osmosis system below his kitchen sink, which removes everything, and the water out of it tastes flat. I have just a charcoal filter under my sink, which removes just the chlorine and some metallic tasting elements, and it tastes much better. I have hauled bottled water from 'natural springs' like pumped-up underground water, that was run thru massive reverse osmosis systems; but to get some taste to it was told they added back some minerals.

Besides the energy to make this artificial, over-priced water it needs to be put in a plastic container--made from oil!

Stat: The Earth Policy Institute estimated that to make the plastic for the bottles burns up something like 1.5 million barrels of oil, enough to power 100,000 cars for a year. Nearly 90 percent of the bottles are not recycled.

I have some bottled water in my fridge but for my picky guests. When driving, I use the same plastic bottles and just refill them from my tap or truck stops along the road....

I have my own well, and it comes straight outta the ground, tastes great. Free.

I'll start buying bottled water when 2/3s of the earth is covered with Heineken..

Well Like you I reuse my water bottles. I only buy when I run out of bottles. they are good for 3 to 6 months. and then they develop cracks.. then when I lose enough I go and buy a cheep case of bottled water. Besides they bottle the Dannon and Coke water 2 miles as the crow flies from my house. So I have the same bottled water as they sell for a lot less.

Latest research, I posted a link about a month ago (I ain't digging it out).

Shows drinking water from a clear plastic bottle, at a rate of 2 bottles a day. CAN contain the equivalent in chemical content, as 1 birth control pill. Just what us guys need.

So, that would explain some of the SF, CA issues
