I imagine you need to call a heavy lift specialist like Beyl brothers. I imagine a cost will be well over 100K to fix that bride and remove that house plus the cost to repair the bridge as well.

Okay, but who is responsible for paying Beyl Brothers? The guy who owns the house, the company moving the house, or the insurance company for the house or the trailer?

Easy answer I think. You know if you were the trucking company moving that house this would all be on you!

The company moving the house would be bonded and insured, I can't figure out why someone didn't catch the bridge being inadequate, those movers are always routed completely because of the size involved. Normally the county engineer, if it was a county bridge, would have given permission in the form of a permit with a specific route to be followed.

Not to bring a dead thread back to life, but if that was in Texas:

1. The Driver is ultimately responsible for his/her route and making sure that all weight limits and low clearances are observed.

2. The bonding agent (insurance) will be paying for a new bridge and home, then possibly suing the driver/company for improper routing. The damage to the rear of the home and the slight buckling of the roof line on the house indicate that there is significant damage to the home's frame, it will have to be replaced.

3. The city/county/state is not required to post weight limits on bridges. The information is readily available by making a simple phone call though.

It's like the over passes here. When they build them, they post a height sign. No one ever EVER adjusts this. Bridges settle into their foundations over time lowering their clearance, roads are paved over regularly, raising their level...That's why we use chase vehicles with masts set just a bit higher than the load when we have something oversized. If the mast hits a bridge bottom, we go around. Can't trust the signs 100% of the time.

This may be a case of an old, under maintained bridge failing, but looking at the pictures, it looks like the load was improperly spread out. I'm only seeing 4 axles very tightly spaced. Unless the house ate another set that we can't see...that's just a bad job of securing the load. They make split-axle trailers for a reason. The same idea should have been applied here. Then again, what do I know...

They should have checked the Carrier's atlas....
Most of the posted bridges and low clearances for each state are listed.....
Or they could call DOT and ask......
