Arnold Update 3/13/09

I am an O/O leased on with Arnold. I first came to Arnold in 1996 and drove a day cab out of the Albany, Ga terminal (now closed) then bought my truck and leased it on. Up until USX got their mitt's on us, Arnold was a really good company to lease on to. Good miles, home every weekend, good maintenance, great office personnel. It was almost truly like having a travel agent the would arrange trips to where ever you wanted to go. Well, all that has changed-and not for the good. Now when you talk to you DM, if you get to talk to him/her, you can bet that there is something fishy going on with the assigned load. Either they give you an incorrect pick up number/date/location, or they will short you miles, or some other screw up that they will require a day to correct, resulting in a missed/late load. Miles have fallen off tremendously (2500+ down to less than 1600) weekly, SE regional drivers were the only ones not to have had a pay increase, QuailCom now manditory in all trucks ($17.50/week), a $2.50 administrative fee every time a fuel card is used. Seems that USX/Arnold/put whatever company name the USX owns here, is trying to make up lost profits due to their not being able to keep customers/drivers happy by charging outragous fees to the O/O's. Why am I still here you ask? Well, I always beleived that you never leave a job before you have another one to go to, and that is what I am doing, looking for another job. Once I accomplish that, you can bet I will be long gone. USX has had a bad name with a lot of customers. They buy other companiesto try and get back in the door under another name then pull the same screw-ups that got them kicked out. That is why Arnold is still Arnold and not USX.

yeah, Arnold has failed to look at how to be successful. As a trucking company you make money per mile, you have to realize without happy drivers you will make no profits. Instead they call dispatchers "driver managers" place them in soft comfy offices requiring pass cards and voice box windows. A dispatcher needs to be involved and deal with the drivers on a face to face bases, this helps make a better team relationship. (In sports the manager is on the side of the field involved in all the action) Allowing dispatchers to hide behind glass and locked doors allows dispatchers to get a "god" complex, upsetting drivers and losing profits. After all it's the operation of moving a mile that makes money and angery drivers cause more accidents, pushed to far drivers have mental breakdowns or quit and than it's lost money recovering a truck.
