Werner truck purchase program? and leasing onto them in general

I'm sick of being a company driver! LOL i love trucking and everything i hate about it revolves around being a company driver. Blah.

I like working for werner though, except for maintenance. I was thinking about maybe leasing a truck onto them. I was thinking more along the lines of buying a truck on my own, and leasing it on. Anyway, talked to recruiting about it. I noticed some things that made it different than most fleeces. First of all, I haven't actually spoken to the people that sell the trucks, recruiting is totally out of that and it's a seperate company...owned by werner. Same people that sell their old trucks to other companies.

It aint a lease though. I got some info about it from the recruiter and he told me that werner sells you the truck and has a deal worked out with wells fargo to get you a loan on it based more on your work history including things like on-time deliveries, etc. I asked the question, "So what if it doesnt work out?", and he told me that you'd either turn the truck in or you could go somewhere else, but you'd have to get another loan to pay off the bank with it. Interesting.

But I know that these deals usually rip you off on the price of the truck. I also know that I'll get ripped off at a dealership and by the bank too though. I'm going to research the prices on 379s and Freightliner classics..... I definitely want the ability to leave werner if they screw me over.....

Recruiting told me it's absolutely fine if i buy my own truck and lease it on. Didn't even try to persuade me into buying one. I also just so happen to be going to a freightliner dealer tomorrow to get my truck worked on. Perfect. I'm gonna go down to the sales department and see how bad they'll screw me over. LOL.

I know that "fleet truck sales inc" is going to be a bunch of dang car salesmen though, obviously. Atleast they seperated the departments... As for recruiting, its too bad company driver recruiting cant be as non-pushy and informative as owner-op recruiting. Neither one is really that bad though.

I haven't gotten the milage rates yet, but i know fuel surcharge is currently 28 CPM. I know the rate isn't the greatest but i did some calculations and it looks like I'd make about the same i make now, including fuel, maintenance, etc. But I do make good money now...Werner pretty much pays everything except fuel and maintenance and bobtail insurance it looks like. I have an information packet that recruiting emailed me that I'm going to look over to see if i figured everything in....

    But I'd *enjoy* the job....LOL.

I know what everyone says about the leases here, but I was just wondering...

On the road, I've talked to several werner owner ops (who bought trucks here) and they told me they're doing great. Never heard a horror story like i usually do with most fleecers. I find that very odd. Even talked to one guy that has a 1998 freightliner classic, doing great, bought it from werner. Still looks like a company truck even. LOL. he runs flatbed though, a little different.

Don't really see any threads on here about it...

So I was kind of wondering if anyone on here had ever done it with werner, and had success or horror stories... Hell if theres some glaringly obvious threads i missed, just post the link. I sure didnt find it. I've also been up for 14 hours and the DOT says thats unsafe. Clearly im incapable of searching a forum right now. I'd like to know how i'm supposed to sleep without air conditioning down here in VA. I can't sleep with my windows rolled down, I can't sleep with them rolled up either, not enough ventilation. Bah. (if i could sleep at night it'd be fine...its too cold at night! LOL)

Ok, bobtail insurance through werner is $30 a month. Passenger permits become free.
I can still get my insurance same as i have now for $180 a month. I'm paying basically a couple bucks less than that right now. Hmm. Fuel tax has to be paid (duh). $25 a month for qualcomm (illegal but not a bad price atleast). Looks like thats the only bills they dont pay.

Owner ops are paid on the same BS sliding scale system company drivers are. However, the scale i was given was for OTR and im probably going to stay on my current dispatchers board, a regional run (ill probably stay out longer though with more drive-by house visits). However, i see deadhead miles are paid at 59 CPM plus FSC. Ouch. Better than free i guess.

    Payday becomes tuesday? The hell?

The lease-on doesnt seem so bad. Just have to find out what a #### trucks gonna cost.....

I bought my KW from werner fleet sales in Atlanta and a buddy of mine bought a 2005 Freightliner classic that they had as a repo for 15 grand, truck had less then 500,000 on it. Both trucks have been good trucks so far, no major problems. Don't know any thing about working for werner though.

Ok lets get this right Wells Fargo gonna give you a loan based on your work history including things like on-time deliveries. I dont think wells fargo care about your deleveries they more consearned about credit score. You have to work for werner while under the loan. Sound like a lease to me. If Wells Fargo finance a truck for you you can take anywhere you like. And I dont think they are telling you the whole story. 59 CPM for deadhead you will be paying them. Their Physical damage insurance is a little on the high side at 5.25%

*deadhead*, 59cpm is better than 0cpm. It's not a lease because it's a loan. They said they had a deal with wells fargo to get loans for people with ###### credit (but they still look of course). Shrug. I'm gonna have to talk to fleet truck sales about that.

I wonder if they'd let me buy their truck and get a loan from elsewhere. I bet they would, since they sell trucks to other companies, etc. Not that i'd even consider that (i'd buy from a dealer if i was doing that...), but i'm gonna ask..:P

I have a feeling they're going to be overcharging 20,000+ on the trucks.....which is kind of a deal killer, you know....

Now Mr Plum Crazy, how do you know what the physical damage insurance costs? You didn't lease a truck on here did you?

What does the loaded miles pay? Also, how many empty miles do you run a week now? FSC on empty mile does not sound right.

Why don't it sound right? I haven't found out what loaded miles pay for midwest regional yet. It's probably higher than OTR like company driver pay. Empty will pay the same however.

FSC is 28 CPM right now (how come when i drove with a crst owner op, i remember his fsc alone being around $1?)

    OTR pays

    0 - 100 miles $1.24 per mile + $30 extra
    101 - 200 pays $1.14
    201 - 300 pays $1.06
    301 - 500 pays 92 cents
    501-700 pays 89 cents
    701 - 100 pays 86 cents
    over 1000 pays 84 cents

but...thats not what i'll make. that's not for midwest...

I frorgot to answer you on empty miles. Right now im running a total of about 2500 to 3000 miles a week (3500 this week WTF? I love it!). I usually don't have very many empty miles but I just did 100 yesterday. The worst would be 500 a week.

You know what, is it just me, or are those rates 10,000% total ########? Especially for free deadheading (it looks like it'd pay the fuel. hah.). Hell i get 15 cpm deadhead as a company driver. What the hell?

Who the hell runs for 84 cents per mile? I think i'll pass. I'm still gonna be buying a truck though. Just not from these con men.

I'd LOVE to know *HOW* these werner owner ops make money.

Anyway i'm not going to kill this thread yet. I'm going to contact sales and see how much the trucks cost.

I wonder if they really have a deal with wells fargo or if thats bull and they'd give anyone that loan with a letter of intent.

I'm also going to a freightliner and a peterbilt dealer this week. Going to find out how much for a *brand new* classic and a 389 ordered with exactly what i want. For SOME REASON i think its going to be very similar to what a werner truck would costm e... Then i'm going to find out how much for a used pre-emissions truck with similar to what i want. I think maybe i'll save as much as i possibly can for 1 year, get my credit fixed (will only cost a couple grand), and I think i should be able to save up enough for a down payment and 6 months of truck payments.....and lease-on somewhere that doesnt want me to run for free.

FSC is something that's paid on freight per loaded mile. Maybe Werner pays their O/Os differently. Those rates are waaaay too low. The first breakdown or new set of tires will put you under.

I ran for .90 CPM loaded and empty, practical miles, with FSC, liability ins and trailer furnished 10 years ago, and that wasn't enough back then. .84CPM plus FSC sure isn't enough now.

FSC from werner is paid on *all* miles. It's 28 cents right now. I know they're taking most of the FSC which is totally unfair.

I wonder if landstar would take me on..
