Your exactly right, the good paying loads are never posted on boards such as Internet Truckstop which is all we use. A lot of the times we have other carriers who will run our loads but when get in a bind or broker out other loads we normally go to Internet Truckstop.

good mourning: id like to cpmment on your post because i no a little bit about landstar. now if your going to lease landstar is about the best leasing company out there BUT that but no means means that landstar is a good company leasing is a fools game no matter the company.

now i leased a truck to them maybe 12 years ago, didn't last very long. the company is popular because they do it all for you when you lease on, that does not mean they pay for it , they do charge you for it all od it , if they do it for you you get charged for it , bow there so called agents well herwe is a flash for you , there nothing but truck brokers thats all , they sign a contract to furnish landstar truck with loads usally a cheap load and they take a good portion off the top and another thing if you get into a problem with that broker landstar will always decide that the broler is right and you are wrong period. i no that because the last load i hauled for them i left it in the middel of the parking lot at the ta truck stop in dallas, did it piss them off , you bet , did i care , absoloutly not you just don't mess with my money period. as a result ihad to sue landstar , o did i ruffel some feathers on that one , and yes i won my suit, took me three years to do it but o yes i won, i live in a 2200 sq ft home on a acre of land and every time i sit down in my lazy chair and feel that ice cold air i thank landstar they payed for it .

they like all companys lie to you big time, sure they don't have a dispatch you find your own loads, and they have trailers that you can pull, BUT there not free, i pull a step deck it was cheap alright , 275.00 per week now that is a bargain, uh huh.

if you figure all there charges then figure the charges they don't tell you about you wind up giving them abot 40% of your revenue thats off every load that you haul , sound like a good deal ? and just think there one of the best leasing company's out there. that tell you anything about leasing.

as far as your authority thats the only was to go in this bsiness and no there is not to much paperework it's a peice of cake and not expensive at all , i have a ompany take care of mine but oly because im lazy.

don't believe all the hype about landstar there not all they say they are .

best of luck to you. southernpride

Hi! You didn't mention which company you are leased on with? Please let me know. I see you are in the mid-west, we are located in Atlanta, is your company national or do they have a lot of freight coming and going to the South? Your help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

I am leased onto Fremont Contract Carriers out of Fremont, NE. About 300+ trucks in dry van with a little less than 100 in flatbed. Most of the operation is O/O. Most drivers do 48 state with a little Canada thrown in (no requirement to go there), while there are a few of us that are primarily Midwest.

Isn't one of the good things about landstar the fact that you can drop and hook their trailers with no touch or wait.

Here a reply to a 2 year old thread. Landstar has large fuel discounts, they have tire discounts, and they have parts and repairs discounts. The load board tells you the rate per mile on the load, so you don't have to call to get it. The agents will work with the drivers that they are used to working with and the good loads don't go on the board. The loads available to the 3rd party O/O's are far less than what BCO's have access to.

Right now LS is mandating EOBR's on all new hires, so I wouldn't do it as a new hire solo because EOBR's will probably never be mandated as they violate our 4th amendment rights to privacy. And we all know how many people fought and died for those rights, don't we?

Landstar has a good system and it is very similar to the system that an O/O has with their own authority except the agents do all of the leg work finding and keeping customers and Landstar corporate guarantees that you are going to get paid for the load in addition to (I don't know this because it has never happened to me) backing you up with legal defense if you really screw something up (as in a fatal accident) plus all of the discounts and then on top of that, they pass on the good loads to the good BCO's.

So that is what you weigh out when considering having your own authority and leasing on. Besides Landstar is no "fly by night" company. They have been around for decades. I have been with them for over ten years and I can say that if you do good work, smart work, know what the heck you are doing, and manage your maintenance well, Landstar can work for you no matter what kind of freight you haul.

Cowpie, the carrier pays cargo insurance. It's illegal to charge lessees or drivers for cargo.

Who told you that? ALL carriers charge for this. Most just take far more out than it cost from you settlement. They just don't have a line item that says "cargo insurance".

What a carrier can't do is require you to buy insurance from them. But you can't get cargo on your own. The carrier has to have cargo in place.
