    Hey O/O info please

Hey guys i am 20 years old and am thinking about starting my own trucking company, my brother and i have always talked about it and now that he is 18 we are getting serious, i was wondering:

Lets say i get a load off a board or from a broker, do they fax the paperwork to me or how does that work? Also who do i get payed through?

I guess im looking at getting the inner details(paperwork, etc.) and not the driving part right yet. Any info greatly appreciated and hats off to ya

Well for first you have to be 21 to drive interstate

Second, the broker will give you all the information. You agree, they will fax you a rate confirmation. You sign & fax it back. The load is then yours. You then go get loaded. Retrieve your BOL from the shipper. Deliver the load. then fax the signed BOL to the broker showing that it was recieved.

Then 60-90 days... Sometimes 30 days... depending on the broker. You get paid!

They will either fax or email the info to you. The broker will pay you normaly in 30 to 90 days, although you can "factor" your invoices. Google that if you don't know what it means. I've known guys who got their start just on the business side, but if your gonna do the driving then you need to focus on that as well so you get to know the rules, trucks, and all the details that we can't list on here. Good luck.

I really don't want to be the bearer of bad news but unless you have several years in the business before you branch out on your own you are pretty much destined to fail.

I've been at this for 38 years, and I'm still learning everyday. I would never jump into any business without first having experience in that biz...

For what it's worth, you and your brother can join the military, but you just can't drive trucks yet........go figure. Actually you can probably still drive dumps or something like that.

    You can do intrastate driving...

Most insurance companies also require at least three years of verifiable OTR experience before they will insure you...

    Cart before the horse.

Get your CDL and some windshield time. By the time that happens, chances are, the way brokers interact with Owner Operators will have changed.

I hope so. I know I did all I could to keep rates up. Sure sometimes I bowed down, but for the most part I did my best to make it easier on the next guy.
