I recently bought an 04 Kenworth T-600 and signed on with a local company here in Jonesboro, AR. The company is very very small. They right now have less than 10 O/O's leased on with them. I can't make any money running with this company. I'm getting around 2000 miles a week and less.
I want to find a company that is mostly if not all O/O's. I've been thinking about Universal Am-Can, Nationwide Express and Carroll Fulmer. I really don't like the two latter ones because they want to install a Qualcomm in my truck. I just despise those things.
Any insight into these companies would be appreciated. I like to run. 2600 to 3000 miles a week is good with me. I know I can't make it running 2000 like I am now.
Need help choosing a good company to lease on with.

I'm leased on with nationwide express and do very well. They have plenty of freight and I rarely sit around anywhere 3000-4000 miles a week. Unusual for me to not clear more than $2000 a week have had a few weeks I cleared $3000+. Pluses, office/shop people are personable and helpful if you have questions. Good fuel discounts anywhere from $.06 to $.40 a gallon off the cash price depending on where you fuel. I'd guess roughly a 70/30 mix of live loads/drop hook. Paid on practical miles. Good discounts on parts with nacarato, mhc, rush, fleetpride. They are picky about contractors maintaining your truck has to be inspected by them 4 times a year. You wont be picking any loads but just roll with it and you will do fine. When it's busy the weekends are short but they are easy to work with on changing loads if you dont want to go 600 or 800 miles on a monday delivery. If you want to work weekends most times of year (now especially) they will keep you rolling. Pilots/flying j is where you get your best discount on fuel, that kinda sucks also no surcharge on empty miles. Very little broker freight they have a solid customer base. Theyre not perfect but they work well for me. The trailers are newer than 8 years and reasonably maintained unfortunately they mostly have recaps even some of the brand new ones they got a few months ago. You could do a lot worse... Insurance is cheap $62 a week that plus fuel from your gross. No maintinence escrow required but its an option if you want. $2000 satcomm escrow give the qcomm back if you term the lease and you get it back. They provide plates, permits. They figure quarterly fuel tax, you pay it. Most loads are in the 40 to 45k range.

Nationwide wont bug you with the qcomm. They give you the load and figure you can do the job. I've never seen a "why are you stopped" message or anything like that. You'll get an occasional eta? for planning. edited additonal info. Lots of freight to and from dallas/ft worth area. Main lanes 30, 40, and 81 into the northeast. No NYC but if you dont like everything else up that way dont even bother signing on. Theres freight to and from chicagoland and other parts midwest. You'd be based out of memphis out of route unpaid miles home on the weekends could be an issue.
