What's your fuel mileage driving volvo 780 with volvo or cummins engine?

Just wanted to get some feedback on what type of fuel mileage drivers are getting with either volvo or the isx engines.

Mine is a 630 with an air dam up top. Im around a 6.3 average, but I have a heavy foot and regularly drive 70+ mph. I can hit mid 7's if I stay around 63mph.

My mileage dropped a little after I had my overhead done a couple weeks ago. I think they overtightened the intakes a tad, too early to tell for sure just yet.

This is with an ISX engine 2005' model year, and autoshift trans 3.55 gears.

I have a 2007 780 with the 2006 pre-buy Volvo D12 engine and according to the trip computer I average just under 8 MPG with at least 75% of my loads being 40,000 pounds or more (mostly reefer). I'm on a load now from Russellville, Arkansas to Rochelle, Illinois with 44,430 in the box and averaging about 8.4 MPG, though I have a nice tail wind at the moment.

Ignoring the trip computer and looking strictly at fuel expense divided by dispatched miles, I'm at about 13.5 CPM over the past 300,000 miles or so.

Most drivers don't get anything like these numbers but I pay for my fuel and I'm here to make money not get anywhere fast or look pretty.

    Good luck,

    Jim

I think JR OTR says it best, driving technique is key, it will gain you or cost you 2-3mpg. My buddies fleet runs your average fleet spec 780's and get 6 -7.8 mpgs. If you run around 65mph and go steady on the acceleration and brakes you should see 7+ easily.

I hit 7.5 after an overhead doing 65-68mph but have gone down to 5.8 then up to 6.4. We found a boost leak I'm hoping we can get it right so I can stay in the 7's range. This is not even in hilly country with less than 40,000 on.

How many of you stating your mileage base it on miles traveled divided by gallons to fill tanks. I'm not too trusting of computer figures.

Some of yall need to take you trucks to Greensboro Volvo HQ because according to them they haven't built a truck that get in the mid 7 mpg range. I been fighting with them for the past year or so about my fuel mileage I was getting 6.8 pulling 43.5K and that grossed out Had an injector go out and take out a rocker arm they replace the injector rocker arm and all the springs ran an overhead and fuel dropped to around 5.5 I have had 2 more injectors replaced since and each time overhead was ran and still not seeing anything north of 6.4 and that running light I do run the speed limit most of the time + or - but with a heavy load and a light foot 5.8 is about the best. Now empty I can get around 7.8 and close to 9 bobtail. And of course a lot of this depend on terrain

They need to talk to their big customers. Because mine is an ex-Interstate I try and talk to any and all of these guys to get any information I can how the company works. When they see the MPG charts, the Volvos without automatics are getting 6.8-7.5. They look if someone drops below 6.8 at loads and location. If it stays below they bring it in to check what is causing it.
