You can not sustain in the trucking business with those kind of rates. Maybe for awhile but not for long.
-
-
While the rate its low I geuss if you are going to lease on with someone this is the best rate out there.
-
Yep, I was thinking of certificate holder. -
Right..... Cert Holder will get them notified if there is a policy lapse, not sure what the additional insured does for them, the way I understood it, is that they are basically covered if there is a claim. It makes sense for the coverage limits to be split though. We only have the 1million in GL. We have never had to make a claim but at least its there if we need it. One of things like having full coverage on a pick up that 15 years old, bad example but anyways. They dont have any info on their website about the power only stuff. They actually contacted me. Bobby was his name, has a crazy last name. I dug around and found his number over the weekend. it's 479-820-5692. Pretty straight up guy, answered all my questions even if it wasnt what i wanted to hear, plus he hooked us up with a good insurance agent. That was the deal for me is that at first i didnt have the general liability and we were with progressive, this guuy was able to write the gl and we were able to stay with progressive and he got us a cheaper rate. As said earlier there is no one size fits all program out there but it helps us get through when things get slow.

Here is an copy of an E-mail I received from JB Hunt
1. You keep your authority and pull our trailers and our freight with your
truck. We have a large network of over 3000 customers and have 24,000
trailers that need to be moved!
2. We pay you a solid flat rate per mile, no matter where the load is
going, and you can get paid within 48 hours of completion of the load if
you get set up with Quick Pay. There is a 1.5% fee for Quick Pay.
$1.50/mile for loads under 600 miles. This includes fuel surcharge.
Average length of haul is about 500 miles, so this is your typical loaded
rate.
$.60/mile for deadhead miles, up to 100 deadhead miles. Average deadhead is
about 75 miles.
$1.45/mile for loads 600-700 miles.
$1.43/mile for loads over 700 miles.
Loads 0-199 miles pay 70% of 98% of the line haul rate and 100% of
accessorials.
3. You can get up to a 50% advance when the trailer is hooked to your
truck, for a $10 fee. Also, a discount fuel card is coming out in
mid-February that will provide a 5 cent discount off the pump at Flying J
and Pilot.
4. You pull our trailers for 10-14 days at a time. But you come and go as
you please. If you get calls from your customers while you are running with
us, then we'll route you home so that you can pull for them. Then you can
come back to us at any time.
5. Our operating area is everything east of I-35. You must be able to
operate in at least 11 states.
6. You pull 53" dry van trailers. Average weight is 35,000 pounds. You must
be able to pull 43,000 pounds.
We can get you set up right away. Just fill out the packet and send it back
to us, along with:
1. Letter of Authority
2. Certificate of Insurance
$1,000,000 Auto Liability
$1,000,000 General Liability
$100,000 Cargo
J.B. Hunt as certificate holder and listed as additional insured.
You can sign the Trailer Waiver and pay $5 per load instead of
getting Trailer Interchange.
If you do not have Workers Compensation, then sign and return the
Hold Harmless attached below.
Thank you. Please call me with any questions.

$5 per day interchange is very high. I imagine this is for people that can't get it added to their policy. It was going to be like an additional $8 per month thru Great West when I checked on it. But I also have my trailer insured at $18K so I imagine if you had a cheaper trailer that would go up. -
I believe that JB Hunt wants you to have $25,000 trailer interchange insurance. Even though some of their trailers may only be worth a fraction of that amount, you are required to have $25,000. I still think that it is their responsibility to pay to insure their own trailers.
