Ever think that maybe he SOLD the truck???
Every part on a CAT motor had a part number. And if it "never breaks" then why did this one??? I've been a mechanic for years, and this just sounds like one big line of BS to me.
Also, why would you EVER buy a truck sight unseen??? That is just pure stupidity.
I bet in 2 weeks they will be back on here complaining about how they got ripped off and the truck is junk and keeps breaking.....

Agreed on a truck without ever looking it over? Yikes......
And every ad for every Baskins truck being nearly identical is just a small red flag! -
I am giving Baskin's the benefit of the doubt at this point. I realize that its possible I am being lied to and the truck was sold.. but if that is the case, then Skip would not only be guilty of fraud, but would also have a serious psychological disorder.
At this point I have no reason to doubt his integrity. If that changes in the future, I'll admit I was lied to.

Good thing you didn't put deposit money down. At worst you're out money for a rental car. Baskins seems to be the type of place that unless you live within a 200 or 300 miles easy driving trip over there to check out what they have then it might be worth a trip. Otherwise, if I lived in Kansas (or wherever way out there) I wouldn't even bother. I'd shop elsewhere but that's just me... I definitely wouldn't take any salespersons word over the phone about equipment, the only way to know is to check it over in person..

It makes no difference that they did not require a deposit.
Like I stated in my original post, I understand sometimes things come up and there can be delays, but we have a legal contractual agreement to purchase this tractor, and if it turned out that Baskin's sold it out from under us and then lied about it, I would sue them. "An oral contract is often provable by action taken by one or both parties which is obviously in reliance on the existence of a contract."
But I don't believe this is the case. Baskin's would be committing blatant, provable, criminal fraud... and its just not a reasonable assumption to make at this point based on what has transpired.
We spoke with Skip 3 or 4 times today. He said that our truck is there, that his mechanic worked on it to find the leak, and that he spoke with CAT regarding a replacement hose... As far as I know, our truck is there, being worked on and will be ready within a few days..Last edited: May 1, 2012

Every truck looks good in a picture after it's been cleaned and shined up. I know the price looks good, I'm familiar with Baskins and how they price equipment to turn quick. I'm just thinking you're getting all emotionally tied into this thing wanting it to be the dream truck at that rock bottom price, and Skip is a salesperson wanting to move inventory, he's going to tell you anything you want to hear. He can probably hear it in your voice. Hopefully it will turn out to be a good truck and everything he said. Just be ready for it if it's not and don't let them push you into a cleaned up worn out piece of junk.

Here it is prior to being listed on Baskin's... so I assumed that they purchased it at auction to resell..

Thats one of the reasons we tended towards retired fleet vehicles with good maintenance records.. -
The link you provided, Truckcenter, is always auctioning off Walmart fleet trucks. If I were you, I would try and grab one of those at the next auction, there's one in 3 weeks.
I'd take my chances with one of those over that Columbia. What was so unique about that Columbia that made it "the one"?theburren Thanks this. -
The overall condition of the tractor inside and out wasn't all beat up.
I didn't think about upcoming auctions from that original site..
I know a local guy selling an '01 Peterbilt for 18. I think its 387..
I may have to go look at it.
I need a truck -- thats for sure-- so if it turns out that Baskin's sold this 06 or some other reason prevents us from getting it I have work to do--
