I'm looking at some '05 and '06 ISXs myself. Based on what I've learned you can unplug the EGR on the '06s and earlier models without jacking anything up but you can't do that on the '07s and newer.

I believe the later '07 engines did move the EGR to the driver's side to keep it out of the heat from the exhaust manifold.

The EGR unplug idea works with the pre DPF engines. I took another route with mine. I put a blocking plate in between the intake manifold and the EGR tube that goes into it. Left the EGR plugged in. Engine has gone almost 300,000 miles with no EGR gasses going in the intake. Computer couldn't tell anything was wrong. This was on '06. Not sure if that would be a viable solution for the DPF models, but would be worth a try. That way the EGR remains functional as far as the computer is concerned, so no codes should be thrown.

I did get a code finally after a couple of hundred thousand miles that the EGR had finally taken a dump. Not even worried about it. That faulty EGR has stayed on for around 80,000 miles now and nothing about engine operation has changed. Why change it since I am not using it anyway!

EGR, DPF? Exhaust gas recirculator? I've owned a number of trucks but nothing with emissions or computer controls.

How much trouble does the emissions stuff cause?

EGR can be unplugged on ISX motors with DPF systems. I did it to mine and it made a pretty good difference. It was an '08 Pete 389.
