Yeah I wouldn't offer to pull a car behind my Durango for $1.50/mi these days, it's awesome you laughed and hung up. Alot of these phone flakes have no idea what it costs to operate a truck because they started last week and it sounds like all profit to them. How do you explain to someone making $8/hour that they're doing better than you'd be after accounting for every dollar of that settlement and pocketing none of it?!

I haul for $2.70 a mile. sometimes a lil more, some times a lil less. weight, route, 24 hr unload, has some to do with taking the load also. for example. on my semi dedicated run, I can load out of my usual shipper & get a great f.s.c. or I can load out of nucor steel, going to same destination, though nucor pays a flat rate on f.s.c based on mileage. it is the same f.s.c. no matter the weight. other shipper pay's f.s.c on the gross weight, so while nucor pays on a 48,000 load aprox $45.00 less I can load 24/7 out of nucor & be unloading at 6:00 am instead of waiting until 7:00 am to get loaded at other shipper & avoid all the traffic, construction zone's, e.t.c. for me the less $ is worth it. sometimes.

I'm the same way, being able to load/unload 24/7 changes the rate I need. If the choice is 2am with no one around or 8am with 30 other trucks. I can take a small pay cut to not wait in line, especially in the summer when it's hot. Nicer to chain coils at 65* at night vs 85* during the day.:biggrin_25525:

I delivered a two stopper yesterday... originated in AR went to Chicago and Milwaukee... 724 actual miles paid me a flat $1300.00... not bad from Arkansas.

My outbound on that trip load should pay about $2200.00 (based on the delivered weight)....

I am a retired company driver. I am about to retire again from my 2nd career. I want to get into Load Dispatching but privately and work for my OO's. I am looking to charge a flat rate of 12% of the contacted rate from the shipper and the driver to keep everything else. I will have a small office near my home or even just run out of my home. Would you say a 12% fee is fare? I'm not looking to make a living off the sweet of my OOs but I would like to make a living. Just a fair living.

    Wow!!!
I lease on to a guy that only charges %10 of gross plus $190 week for insurance.

I get paid every Friday for the week before work.

I use his shop and tools for free.

I park at his place for free.

I get parts at his discounted prices delivered right to the shop for no extra charge

He will dispatch me or I can find my own stuff same price.

Why would I pay someone %12 of gross unless you got some consistent high dollar freight? I’m currently over $3 mile all miles this year with legal flatbed freight. Can you do %12 better? Are you going to invoice and factor there money as part of this %12?

    Still seems high to me?

    Sweet Deal.
For comparison, me with a dry van it is only 2.20 all miles (50K) so far, 2.85 per loaded mile...own authority with 92 c a mile all costs excluding my pay. I am not even complaining. I like what I get but flatbeds rule by large this year.
