    Are we really this stupid?

It never ceases to amaze me, How stupid some O/O's are! I just turned down a load this morning because the guy wouldn't pay more than $1.75 per mile.
About 45 minutes later he calls me back and says "Hey I got some more money for you on that load and now I can pay you $2.00 a mile for it" (Really?) so I told him to go ahead and fax it over to me.

A couple of minutes later he called me back and said he was sorry but the load was booked already...Then after we talked about a couple of other loads he let it slip that another O/O called him and booked the load that he offered me $2.00 a mile on for $1.60 a mile. As it turns out the other guy called him and asked about the load and he said that he already had it booked so the idiot said...."I'll haul it for less if you'll give it to me!" he asked him what he could haul it for and the guy tossed out the $1.60 figure and of course the guy took it and kept the rest for himself and the "stupid driver" that's gonna haul the load isn't even gonna break even on it.

Now of course the "idiot" will be sitting around whining to everyone about the crappy rates that we're forced to haul for when he and others like him is one of the primary reasons that these thieves (brokers) offer these terrible rates on freight that pays them much more than most of you guys realize.

Me? I'll sit for a little while and then get a load that I can make money on because I'm not willing to work for nothing.

So I ask the rhetorical question.....Are we really this stupid?

Some are. And some expect us to be. Its really sad.

Don't blame you a bit for being pissed about the whole situation though. And I can imagine that the load paid $2 / mile to start with, maybe more.

On more than one occasion I have laughed, sometimes hysterically, at rates offered on some loads. I no longer hold back any commentary I might have about how cheap some of these brokers/shippers are being. I usually ask them are they kidding?

I'm not even pissed about it....Just amazed at the ignorance of some of these guys.
Of course when he goes broke because of his own choices he'll blame the industry and come on here and start badmouthing anyone that runs their own truck and saying that there's no money in it and that we're all fools destined for the poor house...

The failures and losers are the first ones to scream doom and gloom to everyone else and tell everyone else that they can't possibly do well because THEY weren't bright enough to be able to make it.

This may be an amateur thing but I honestly believe this may become the norm, even if only in the 'border states', if you know what im saying.

You can't fix stupid! Just look at all the threads on TTR about low rates and still someone can and will haul it for less. Makes me sick. I used to go round and round with a couple of the brokers I used. They kept telling me they could get the load hauled cheaper. Finally told'em both Fine, than let'em haul it and don't call me back. After I turn'em down a couple of times things changed for the better for a week or so. Then we're back to "we've got someone to haul it for less". Yep-we are really that stupid.

Absolutely!!! And people wonder why I don't really care if fuel does go to $4 and stays there for a little while. There are no shortage of idiots like you described and they'll all go out of business, $4 fuel just speeds it up a little bit. The only real benefit from the bad credit issues is maybe there will be fewer idiots to take their place since no one will finance them for equipment.

Exactly....I have NO sympathy for these people.
When they go broke, I say....Good riddance!

the boss gets calls all the time trying to get maxi freight moved from the seattle area and he says if one of my O/O will take ill let you know and it amazes me how cheap some of it is i say no to most of it.. but then again even 3 empty cans pays 2.10 a mile so it just depends on how bad they want it moved

and i will bounce back empty before i run for nothing
