GD makes a good unit but pushing any unit over the limit is asking for trouble. A 1000 CFM pushed now and then is not near as bad as running the guts out of an 850 day after day just to keep up with the big units. Running less than an 850 CFM is going to cause you grief moving frac sand.
To lease on to a frac hauler your truck will need to pass inspection, I am not aware of anyone excepting less than 850 CFM (but some might).
The larger units are in short supply and an aggressive sales person will be attempted to push the smaller units.

Go the distance and get what you need to do the job right, walk away from the small units.

As for the ratings ask to see the data sheet it will show volume/pressure against horsepower and speed. It will clearly state the max rpm you can rotate the unit.

    ONe other item.

On blowers the PTO setup is matched to the unit. When you over drive the blower you are over driving the entire power take off. When I went from a 450 to 1000 all the original PTO items from the transmission attachment to the drive line to carrier bearing had to be updated to the larger size.

Save some big grief later and get it right from the start.

    Attack and Kellyb Thank this.

I'm pretty sure this is what happened. I was just confused because I thought a bigger blower was more powerful but apparently not.

On another note for anyone that already runs your own blower are the silencer kits mandatory, just a little more convenient, or a waste of money? I found a good quote but with a $600 silencer kit added - not sure how useful that really is.

Silencer.....not required, but you'll be glad you did.

Cuts blower noise by about 50% when you're unloading.

Duly noted. Just heard some people in south texas are using car mufflers for silencers :biggrin_2556:I've heard of people doing that for APU's but blowers??hmm. If there's a way to jackleg something you won't have to look hard to find it in south texas. lol

    Attack Thanks this.

Kelly, there is one reason I wouldn't invest in a silencer. Whether I'm at a wellhead or a bottling plant, it seems like I am one of several trucks there, and none of them have silencers. Even if my truck were TOTALLY quiet, it wouldn't matter when I'm unloading among other trucks that are not silenced anyway.

Big Red may have a different experience than me, but that's the way we usually unload.

It's so #### loud I can hardly hear myself think.

I've got a 5 inch resonator muffler on the intake side of my blower.....works just
like a resonator on a set of straight pipes works.....

    Not very well.

I've got a built in silencer too.

Of course.....you don't really worry about making noise with your blower
when there's 10 V-12 diesel powered high pressure pumps fired up and
    screaming.

You can still hear what your trailer is doing though......at least I can.:yes2557:

Its nice when you've pulled the same trailer long enough to understand it when it "talks" to you...
The hollow sound that lets you know the hopper is empty is my favorite sound. Lets me know that I'm one step closer to going home!

We used to vacuum load plastic w/ 4" truck mufflers; one on the inlet and the other on the outlet...they really scream when you vaccum.
