That is about the set up I have. I use a 2k watt Honda generator (the little portable one, about the size of a small suitcase). Keep in my tool box while driving. I take it out and chain it to the frame while stopped. My ac is a portable unit form home depot. Made my own window adapter out of a pice of wood to vent the hot air. (unit uses 1000 watts of power, so I am under the 1600 watt rated load of the generator)
I don't know where people are getting the "they wont last" crap. Ive had my generator with me for over 7 years and only changed spark plugs and oil. (and a new pull cord about a month ago). The ac unit has been with me for about 5 years (and I even keep it with me in the winter as I am too lazy to take it out. I removed the pass seat and it becomes a coat rack in the winter) and the both run just as good today as they did the day I took them out of the box.
And my total cost, with external 3 gal gas tank, is about $1500. Paid for itself many many many times over.
Portable generator on truck??

Hi, could you give me the brand of air cond at home depot, i have a small gen , not suitcase and rated at a thosand watt, i think, it only has one plug for 12 volt, the other reason i like my gen i can leave and charge up a battery, might take all day, but it save money on service call, i see this for a o/o , but i couldnt see why this wouldnt work for company as well ,too cut his-her idle time down too 0,,my only thing is they would say for insurance reason, if my gen burnt up the truck or something like that , my pet peeve is there way too much idleing truck's and yes you can shoot with me with your bow's and arrow's, but i have too agree with the big gov on idling truck's, i can run many trip's on what they idle at night,
-
I agree with you! It sucks seeing so many trucks idling needlessly! Right now around the country the temps are in the 50s yet so many trucks are idling. Sometimes i wanna bang on the door and yell, SHUT YOUR TRUCK OFF!!!Third3y3guy and icsheeple Thank this. -

Ok I bought a 3000watt Generator today, And going to put it on my truck! A little more than I need but it was on sale at Menards for $299. so my questuion is do I need a Power line conditioner for smooth running electricity? like a pure sine for DC! Not sure what a/c /heat I will use. was looking at some small Cabinet one's! Don't want eratic power to mess up my a/c or t.v.!!!
-
No, you don't need anything else. If you want really clean power you can get a computer APU which is a battery backup system. You would plug that into your generator then plug your TV and everything else into the computer APU except the A/C. That's too big for that or your inverter.
But you should be all set with nothing else.
What brand and model generator did you get? -
What states give you the 400 lb. exemption, and how does it work on the axle weight limitations, i am guessing you would be allowed 400 lbs. over on your drives or steer or a combination of the two?
-
Yes, 400 pounds over on the drive axles. Here is a link to the states.
