I noticed on getloaded.com (Demo) That there are power only loads. I have not noticed that on any other demo board. Thay had quite a few of these loads daily out of Utah but does not show what they are paying. Just wondering if these loads could be profitable and worth pulling?

Nobody knows about power only loads? I was just wondering if the power only loads are all drop and hook style loads?

There is a company out of Salt Lake that has made it a business out of taking under utilized trailers and getting them loaded and having the dropped at other locations. They have a very high standard for who they will allow to pull the trailer.

Other niches but JB Hunt is the largest and some smaller carriers push this during peak times.

Yeah, I seen on the loadboard where it had a Load from SLC to Chicago on almost a daily basis and you could get a back haul power load from Indiana to West Valley Utah. Around 2800 loaded miles.

I have pulled loads to Elpaso and rather then wait for the trailer to come back (4-5 days) I have gotten power only loads out of there. The pay was decent on them and the trailers were in good shape. Last one I got was a construction jobsite trailer that was just full of shelving and couple job boxes going back to Texarkanna.

Why don't you check out a power only company if you want to do it for awhile?

There are allot of different companies out there that do power only.

Just an idea you might want to take a look at.

95% of the time a power only load is a load out. Which means they pay you very little to move the trailer but you get to load it with freight while in rout to deliver the trailer. One way trailers is big in this.

The loads that you are seeing posted from SLC are new trailers from the Utlity trailer plant just north of SLC. Most of the loads that are posted on the load boards are new or used empty vans of reefers that pay very little but you are allowed to load them out. The only thing is you are responsible for the all insurance which can be the bad part. We all know how well forklift operators take care of the inside of trailers. Very easy to have one damaged and then have to explain when you show up with new trailer that has damage.

I have worked for power only companies in the past. Power only means these companies have no trailers of there own but usually just transport new and used trialers to dealers and customers. They can be empty or loaded. Most of the time they are empty. These companies also do shows like Disney on Ice or the Circus.

Some of the companies that do this are Trailer Transit, Powersource, Rexdon inc. Trailer Convoys and a few small other co. The only problem can be the amount of deadhead that you can do if there are no trailers nearby. The trailer industry is very busy right now but when things get slow you might as well stay home.
