I have been driving for 6 1/2 years and thinking about going the o/o route. I have never drove over the road but i used to be a helper for a furniture company (Before I got my license) driving from new york to florida. I've driven moving trucks, dump trucks, roll offs, tag trailer, dump trailer, low boy, drop deck, and currently drive pulling a 28' pup reefer trailer. Im very independent 26 years old good work ethic. My questions are, am i doomed without the otr experience, what are bills and finances that i should be aware of to be successful, and is it possible to just do regional runs not otr? I currently live in SC and would like to find something where im not out on the road everynight. I've seen some companies say home every night. I don't have to be home everynight, just dont want to be out everynight of the week. Thank you

find a job as a local driver it's gonna be tough to make it as an owner operator and want to be home every night unless you buy a daycab haul container's so that might be your only choice.

You can definitely do container's and make money if you buy the right truck and get with a reputable company. Being in sc you have ports you can run from and also run to nc and ga or fl and make money. hometime migght not be nightly but several times a week. good luck
