what year trucks do yall run

1979 K100 Flattop and 1984 K100 Aerodyne.

Both have Cummins in them. Do mostly regional flatbed work with them.

Mechanical motors that I can work on myself.

 

I've got a '96 that I traded two horses for in 2004. I planned to run it just long enough to get a different truck, as I didn't care for the truck too much. It kept on running, though, and it got 7 mpg. It kept on keepin' on, and I decided to drive it. It only left me one time and that wasn't it's fault. A Freightliner shop did some work for me and put it all back together, leaving everything they'd touched hand tight. I ran it for two days and it had to be towed. I sincerely believe if I had not taken it to that idiotic Freightliner shop it would've never quit.

That was right after Thanksgiving and I've had little problems with it ever since, and the other night, it flaked a lobe off of the cam shaft. I guess I can't complain, though. She's sitting there with a little over 1.7 million on that engine, an old 350hp Cat.

I'm now looking for something with a bigger cab. That 42 inch flat top has gotten old. So has that idiotic (not so) Super 10 tranny. I'm looking for something prior to 2004, without EGR.

A guy that runs for our company bought a new Volvo with EGR and DPF, and he's had nothing but trouble with it. His 2009 model has been off the road a WHOLE lot more than my '96 and was towed in 4 times since it was new, and my '96 was only towed the one time in it's life. Hell, it still runs good now once you get to 55 or so. It misses pretty bad 'till you get it up to 55, though.

I run a stretched 1979 K100 with a mechanical cummins.

Its fun as all get out to work on, but it isn't for everyone.

Most companies with a 200x requirement do so because its cheaper to not run a standalone electronic log system. 1998 and up, its pretty much plug and go for an old as dirt qualcomm.

 

I run a 96 and woudn't trade it for anything. You wan't write off's, buy a trailer, paint the truck, rebuild the truck and so on. When you keep your old stuff you know what you have and a new truck doesn't mean more reliable.

 

Maybe to put you in a lower tax bracket if you're borderline in a higher one. But justifying a huge loan for tax writeoffs is a foolish mistake that will cost you lots of money.

 

I would rather pay uncle sam a little extra money over giving a bank three times more money. Do the math, it does not pay to borrow money to save money on taxes. A REALLY GOOD CPA will tell you the same thing. An average run of the mill cpa only knows taxes and does not have good business sense.

 

Companies want newer trucks because they want you in debt so you have to work your ##### off and take crap loads. Most don't want anyone that's really independent
