Cattle hauling seems to be a specialized part of trucking. Are big carriers in the cattle hauling business at all? It looks like o/o's corner the market in this business. Is the money good in hauling cattle, hogs, etc.?

Livestock hauling is like the rest of the trucking business now, you have the ones who come in & undercut the rates on everyone else.
If you don't have to compete with the pig haulers from iowa you can do alright.
Be prepared to run the side roads around the scales because you will be overweight.
If you are a single driver you will need a loose leaf logbook.bullhaulerswife, 281ric, camaro68 and 2 others Thank this. -
kwswan, Don't get our loose logs and backroads shut down. LOL. Camaro, if you get into livestock, you better be ready to roll, and roll hard. I am rarely overweight(horses), but when critters are on you go, rest when you're empty, sit down to eat later.

I figured it was that way. Get them where they need to be fast. I pass by the auction barn in town and see the trucker loading up about three times a week. Do most animal haulers do their driving at night? Seems like it would be easier on the animals. Certainly couldn't stop over at the truck stop and sleep......lol

My brother pulled a rack for years. I rode along/drove with him a few times. Take 20 years away and a bad rotator cuff and I'd be pulling a rack. There are few times better than bs'ing with a bunch of a bullhaulers. With him one time doing 85 on I90 heading to Austin Minnesota. Gets pulled over and a level 3. Cop says you show 15 minutes for every stop this week and your hauling pigs, I used to raise pigs, I know full well that you can't load a pot in 15 minutes. My brother looked at him and says, how long ago was that. Cop says about 15 years ago. My brother then says, facilities have improved since then, you must have had horse@!it facilities. Long story short, no warnings, no violations just get the hello out of here.

Years ago, I was running across Tx. with a couple other trucks and we got to talking about the max. speed an emergency vehicle could travel when using their lights. One of the guys told us most places only allow 10 to 15 mph over the posted speed limit. Anything over that required a Bullhauler escort.
