    Yes, it is silly really.

Like pulling your own driving record once a year for the file, doesn't make sense if it's a 1 man show. Pull your own record to see if there are any surprises on there, lol.

I can see it now on the road in a scale.

"sir, are you authorized to have this passenger with you?"

    You mean her? My wife?

    "Yes, her...."

    Um, in My truck?

    "Yes"...

    It's a "Here's Your sign" moment......

I have heard this happening before. My DOT audit mentioned it.
I had my wife sign a 'release' form and I leave it in the truck.
It is not dated as it is perpetual.

I think there is an FMCSA rule about taking passengers (runaways for example) in the rig w/o documentation or permission.

Ironically my ins company is very specific about who can ride in the truck.
Essentially only other company employees or drivers listed, but I had my wife added to my policy and approved by underwriting in writing.
    I'm not taking any chances.

Progressive doesnt care if you pickup hobos out on the road, but my company did.

my wife and kids will be "approved."

I need to figure out how to get an aging mom with bad hips into the truck. She wants to ride with for one trip she told me.

Then I get to use all them handicap spots I am now seeing in a truck stop.....:biggrin_2556:

Oh S...., I'll get it updated.

During my audit I asked about why all the "silly" stuff. He gave me what I thought was a good answer.

    Two parts -

First, the FMCSA decided to stop with all the exemptions for independent O/O's because it was confusing enough and they had people not doing stuff they felt was silly but the FMCSA had a reason for it.

Second, Imagine you are in an accident and in the hospital. You may be able to explain how you are qualified or pull those records from the truck but will your wife or someone else be able to?

My opinion is the new entrant audit is one of the best things that they could have implemented.

When being audited, they will physically come to your place of operation correct? Even if you are using that empty room at home as an office? They will go through your house to your office?
