Unsafe Truck Drivers
So I just got finished on a business trip in personal vehicle doing over 1,000 miles. And we in the trucking industry need to do some serious self-policing. On the first leg of trip (about 400-miles) I was tailgated by a semi on a regular basis (and many times in split speed zones 65/70 with me driver 75 and semi coming up on me at fast rate of speed). Cut off several times that I had to get on the brakes and watched on a regular basis semis tailgating other semis so closely that a car could not fit between the two trucks.
We have no one to blame but ourselves when we allow the 10% of drivers that are driving like XXXXXX to get away with it. Call the company and report the driver.
When that 4-wheeler has a speeding semi tailgating them at 70 MPH they are going to remember that and paint us all with that broad brush and support additional regulations in the name of “safety”. Oh great now we got a bunch of truckers going to report other drivers thanks Bill. Like we don't have enough a holes to deal with.

I'm usually a mind my own business kind of guy and let the aggressive ones get on by me. I did turn one in doing that to me a few months ago. Merging onto I-85 southbound at GA-400 in my car at about 70mph (55 zone with local truck restriction). If I'd needed to tap the brakes I would have been one of many fatalities. Close enough I couldn't see his windshield in the rear view. I moved over and let him by so I could safely read the DOT number and call 911. I didn't even bother with the carrier.
I did look him up on csa later that day. Big surprise! Intervention level for dangerous driving. I'm guessing a call to the carrier would have been a waste of time.

Yeah probably a waste. I too used to get frustrated about slow cars and what not. But I been slowin down over the last couple of years just not worth it.

Sometimes you have to make a call..it's either that or read about the guy killing someone down the road later.
I don't like to be a thorn in any drivers side..but you have to do something when you see these drivers nowadays weaving in and out of traffic like they're driving a 4wheeler.

I call on vehicles at both ends of the extreme. Slow and fast.

When that XXXXX is a trucker. You bet. Get that driver off the road.
Nirvana would be that the general motoring public got the message that the professional drivers will not stand for unsafe driving. But this BS code that we can't report other drivers is just that, BS.
The level of unsafe, unprofessional drivers on the road has gotten out of control. We are never going to be able to regulate the correct behavior. It will take drivers helping new drivers learn etiquette and not accepting driving behavior that not only makes us all look bad but puts our families at risk.
And Red, I'm with you that I tend to leave people alone. This trip just opened my eyes to the actions of enough drivers to see how bad it makes us look as a whole.Last edited by CondoCruiser; 05.09.2012 at 11.51 AM. Reason:: skirting filter

Last night coming home it was so foggy visibility was --at most-- 100 feet on the interstate (65MPH speed limit). It was the worst fog I have ever seen. Most of us were doing 45 but there was a few IDIOTS come blowing by us doing 65-70 with their trailers half in our lane because you could barely see the fog line...

I started a thread like this but in construction zones. They do the same thing. 2 questions come to mind. 1) is this the new breed of drivers or veteran drivers that get too comfortable and think its ok to break the law? and 2) Where in the hell are the cops when you need them?

I tell you where the cops are giving me a ficticous level one inspection.
I see this more often of late. I wonder what will happen when the first truck has to get on his brakes? I try and back off a little and give myself extra distance in case they crash. If I get a tailgater I just slow down more over say a mile or so and they get the message, but in my personal pick up they just get closer cars are as bad at times. The problem isn't driving it's the
me-me-me attitude people have nowdays.
