Set-back means nothing with a spread......Yeah I can make U-turns easier...But bumping a dock with 80' between the dock and the fence...Real fun.....
I ran a load to Oxnard yesterday and had to run through the Conejo Coop....
They have signs warning of "Trailer Cheat"....You bet I took up both lanes to make that tight turn.......

I drove 900s for years and still look at them all going down the road ,,,,but would i go back to hood, NO WAY ,,,as stated tighter turning, easier to navigate ,can see around your truck better/safer. and extra money in the pocket book.

I know what you mean, our trailers are mini spreads 8' between the axles instead of 10/11 BUT we have to run OVER 8' between the back of the sleeper wall and the 5th for load overhang.

For all those who say the "fuel bill" cures hood fever, I'd beg to differ. I have spoke with MANY owners of aero trucks that run general freight (not dedicated lanes, or light loads) and they all avg between 6-7mpg pulling vans. I've managed to get my pump-to-pump avg to 6.5mpg pulling a flatbed, usually 30-40k lbs. So saying they cost you more in fuel is just untrue. The way the truck is driven and it's specs are what gives you descent or horrible mpg.

It's all in the driver. I loaded in Compton yesterday and watched 3 seperate drivers in aero trucks try to back into a drive. I made it in 1 shot with a 4900EX and a spread. So it's got nothing to do with tighter turning, it has to once again do with the abilities of a driver.
