In 2010 my friend bought new cascadia paid $100k. Now you can find like $140k. Prices are rising. Last yer gliders were about 120k now about 122-125k. I wonder what prices will be in 2020? Nobody will drive new truck.

i do not agree that the re manufactured engines or transmissions or differentials are any less quality than a brand new one

I will have to agree with you on the re-manufactured and aftermarket bolt on parts being questionable these days.

if the large truck parts have taken the same path as the automobile remans.

And I dont do AutoZone discount parts I am a firm believer in Napa and Name brand replacements for my autos.

i have had some bad experiences with aftermarket parts on my Ford Ranger that I installed years back when i did my usual vehicle refresh. I threw a new clutch in it and removed the fully functional 10 year old slave cylinder and replaced with a new aftermarket only to have it fail 2 years later So had to pull the tranny all over again.

2 months later I had a new timing belt tensioner I installed when i did the belt 30000 miles previously fail and leave me stranded. The old OEM one with 90000 was like new but i am a preventive kind of guy.

i have a friend whose father owns a large truck parts and auto supply warehouse and he said it is impossible to nuy good American reman or new parts anymore.Only option is pay OEM prices but my experience lately is you are better off in the long run.

Nothing like thinking you have replaced all the parts and you are roadworthy for a while and than the new or reman parts fail within a year or 2.

It is a proven fact that a SEASONED motor block = meaning a highly used one is a much more stable platform to build a motor with because of the endless heat and cool cycles and stretching it has been through as opposed to new block.

Once you remachine and line bore a used season block those tolerances will remain accurate for the life of the motor where a brand new one will be constantly changing,

A lot of inflation has taken part in that 5 years since he bought that 2010.I buy lumber and construction materials all the time and it is mind boggling even during the building slump how much the materials increased.

This country as a whole has lost an easy 20 percent of their buying power with the dollar during that time

I buy everything in all different fields of work from auto to construction and marine parts and tools and everything is up up up

I have a Publix high end grocery and a Walmart 2 blocks from my house that I shop at. I only do Publix for meats and specialty items and the rest at Walmart .

What has recently blown me away as fuel prices have dropped over the last 4 months yet food and household items that i buy on a weekly basis have suddenly gone up 20 percent in price..i don't know how these families feed 4 kids these days

Will the Peterbilt 579 ever be offered as a glider kit?

"Never say never" But, I highly doubt you see any more newer models converted for Glider use, I think the Cascadia with the 12.7 will be the last reverse engineered truck on the market.

I just don't see the advantage, the newer motors and drive trains have become so much better and more reliable than they were just 4 years ago, and the price of a glider is now MORE that that of a new truck.

In a scale of economics, I just don't see it happening.

Not to mention I'm sure the epa has wet dreams of ending gliders as well as older reliable engines.

True, but too be honest the "new" motor platforms HARDWARE has performed well, the systems that were added on for emissions are what is/was causing the issues, and that has been cleaned up a lot.

A lot of price gouging go on with new gliders, it is interesting to see the improvements made regarding new emissions trucks and pricing coming down as well. Do the mpg numbers of the new emissions compliant trucks factor in the cost of def?

Not really understanding your question, a truck is going to use X number of gallons of fluid, whether that be an older truck on all diesel or a newer truck on Diesel/DEF, the prices of the two are not that dissimilar at the pump.
