We rolled the cost into one total price.

I have read that Carb will allow you to add a particulate filter to a older truck to continue running in their state. Could a Glider be ordered with a pre egr engine and a particulate filter and meet these requirements? Anyone know?

Yes you could, in this case you would have a passive system rather than active. There have been quite a few lawsuits and business's no longer in business as a result of systems semi/not working. The drawbacks of a passive system far outweigh the benefits for consideration IMO.

I would agree with KustomTruck. Going with a pre-egr engine in a glider and trying to throw on one of those aftermarket DPF units is just asking for trouble. If one has to play in the California sandbox, they might as well pony up for one of the newest engines that are designed from scratch to use DPF and SCR. Some things just don't play well together when they weren't designed for each other out of the gate. I am not sure that anyone doing those aftermarket DPF retrofits has had any real success doing it. Most of them are so unreliable, and I understand there have also been a few truck fires because of them. The lawyers like it though!

Detriot dealer would be the place to ask about the engine.... A know cat will sell you almost any engine except the C-16.......

I think your better off paying the core charge, than buying a salvage truck and stripping the parts off it. But lots of people are doing it that way.....

I would look into those dealers with gliders for sale that are ready to work. Time is money , and as a one truck guy with no shop all that part swapping costs $$$.

This thread came back to life after 15 months. What needs to get said about glider's, things that have changed in that amount of time? What I'm seeing is you can't by heavy rears from salvage very easily (or at all as i can't find a PETE cut off anywhere) because they are sucked up in the glider business. So the salvage people say it's going gangbusters. But I'm also told that Uncle Sam is now getting the excise tax out of gliders in some form?
