seems petty but, how did you pick your truck number?
So what led you to use the truck number you have?

Not petty at all.
If you're an independent O/O Carrier - you pick your own number - it's simply an internal "Fleet ID" number.
If you're leased onto a bigger carrier, they usually assign you one.
And if you're leased into a smaller carrier - you can ask for a particular number, and if it's not already assigned - they're feeling nice, and they don't have a particular numbering scheme they're trying to stick with for "organizational purposes", they'll let you use it.

My truck is 105. the first 05 truck I bought. If I buy another 05 it would be 205, if I bought a 2012 it would be 112, etc.... I used to work for a guy who used this system and as his fleet grew it worked out well. My trailer is SD104 and I'll bet you can guess what that means.

I've had 6 trucks with 3 companies in the past 18 yrs... 4 out of 6 trucks had ending # of "078" and had this # with each company as well. Tell me what those adds are... LOL
