Advantages of an O/O

Currently attending a truck training school and have been out on the road a few times and i know this is what i want to do. My goal would be after 1-2 years as a company driver to become an Owner/Operator.

My question regarding the Owner/Operator is what are the benefits of becoming an Owner/Operator and what are some of the drawbacks?

Any help would be appreciated as i am very serious about getting into the proffessional driving industry and becoming an O/O.

Thank you

You are going about it right. A couple of years prior with a company is a big plus. I have never been an O/O, always a company man myself. Know a lot of O/O's including a cousin of mine. I would stay away from the lease deals. Some make it look like you are an O/O, but they aren't. Not sure what it will be like in a couple of years, but I don't think now is a good time to go O/O. My cousin has been an O/O for about 30 years and at one time had a half a dozen trucks. He is down to one truck and recently traded it in. The bank told him that if he had not been a O/O for so long that they would not swing it. They told him to many are going belly up.

Hope this helps. I am sure others will come along that are O/O's or have been and offer their advice. Good luck! Keep us posted.

60 DAYS

O/O'S In 60 days your ability to make a living is going to become a lot harder. You are soon going to be competing against 100 Mexican truck companies. Who knows how many trucks that is going to be. That's just for starters in the first PILOT YEAR. Probably all will be allowed in a couple of years. Good Luck to you all. I doubt in a couple of years if any of you will be left, no way you will be able to compete. Went to being a Co. driver several years ago, best move I ever made. In a little over a year my house and farm is going to bought and paid for, then the Government NAZI'S, Slave owning company CEO's and everybody else can go to #### for all I care.

P.S. SUPPORT INCOMPETENCE REELECT AN INCUMBENT!
