Thoughts !! Is this a good Mileage Contract ?
I currently have this contract pulling a Van . I been thinking on going percentage based lease with SNI or LS but I can't help but think I got a ok deal doing what I am currently.but keep getting told I'm getting the shaft on mileage
Here it is : the numbers are for both loaded and empty unless specified
1.14 base
0.37 FSG ( last week )
0.04 bonus ( all miles )
0.04 hazmat pay ( loaded only )
0.05 chassis pay ( if pulling one )
Layover $250.00 per day
Practial mile
Paid plate
Paid tolls
Paid permits
Cargo Ins Paid
Paid CAT Scale Tickets ( reimburse )
Lumpers paid ( if ever have one )
detention $30.00 after 3hrs
border cross pay $ 30.00 ( each way )
Just kinda want to compare my contract to others on mileage and see where I compare but also want to see if I really would be much better off if I went percentage cause my thoughts when you figure in all the benefits I get on the lease Plate , permits , tolls , scales , that I'm running around 1.57 ALL Miles w/O a Haz load and about 1.61 if I'm loaded with a Haz load .
I don't get a big fuel discount only bout 2 cents below cash price but that's still 6-8 cents off pump so it's something .
Just wanting to know where I compare
Thanks

I'm only out for : Fuel Tax , Physical Damage , NTL ( bobtail ) Prepass
And they are considering paying the Prepass before long ..

what u could do is compare the rpm (rate per mile) loaded on percentage along with ur deadhead miles & see how it differs any to u. u say $1.57 per mile empty & loaded, well that's not toooo bad, but how much is ur liability insurance? u also have maintenance besides ur fuel tax, physical damage & bobtail, so once u figure that in, the numbers drop. just something to think about; not trying to being ugly, i'm a former o/o of 10 yrs.

For tractor only, that isn't too shabby.

Take your cost per mile , then DIVIDE by .79 that will give you the LEAST amount of $ you can operate for and survive and make some PROFIT.

Tractor only : yes
general liability = paid
cargo = paid
phys damage 34.50 ( week ) 1,000 ded
NTL $5.54 ( week )
maint = I pay
fuel tax = I pay
2290 = I pay
pre pass = I pay
plate = paid
permits = paid
tolls = paid
scales = paid
Logbooks = paid
trip pack = paid
Qualcomm ( no fee ) = paid
Pay = average 1.57 ( includes roughly everything ) 1.14 base is 0.37 FSG ( current ) I think it may hit 0.38 this week as fuel is rising possibly even 0.39 but it's off the DOE . so if that's the case and it hits 0.39 I'd be around 1.59 ( base plus FSG plus bonus 0.04 ) and 1.63 if Haz .
I'm figuring 0.02 for Plate , Permits , Scales , Tolls , so I could be a little off I've heard people say that just the plate alone is worth 1.6-1.8 cpm and we have to scale most all loads ( 41,000 - 43,000 ) so that 9.50 adds up if you pull 3-4 loads a week or even just 2 it's 19.00 that's not counting a re-weigh if needed . I guess I'm saying I could be a little conservative on the 0.02 but I'm not sure .
I get the bonus every 6 months it's paid on ALL Miles ..
Im trying to think of anything else but can't except I get paid 30.00 after 3 and a layover ( rare ) pays 250.00 every 24 .

I've looked at the load boards and have saw loads paying 1.85-2.30 gross but when you figure in the percentage your at roughly 1.58-1.65 but you pay for everything I mentioned plus you eat the deadhead . Which I understand in some markets is minimal depending on where you are .
Percentages I've saw range from 65% to 87% but the higher percentage you also end up paying the general liability or cargo or both and must have a trailer.. So I'm not sure as to what's best mileage or percentage
This is just my case .. I understand the guy getting 0.90 plus fuel it's not debateable what's best but I'm roughly 0.24 better off or in some cases 0.26 or 0.30 per mile if I'm Haz mat ( throw the bonus out ) with it is 0.34 .. That's at 0.90 some leases I've seen 0.95 to 0.98 Ive saw 1.00 ( few ) most pay higher rate loaded - lower rate empty like 0.95 loaded 0.90 empty etc .
Again I'm just trying to compare if my lease is decent or if it would benefit me to go percentage and when I say benefit I mean in VAN and at least 0.10-0.15 which could be up to 12,000-15,000 per year raise .. But then again you got to buy plate, etc .. So I'm torn

Yeah right and 75% of next to nothing is a GREAT one

There are PROS / CONS to both types of contracts and you need to enter them with your EYES open and know the #s you need to make it work.
