    Select Trucks of Freightliner.

Has anyone had good or bad dealings with them? How stiff are they on financing? What terms do they have? I understand warranties are a nightmare, should I avoid their warranty?

I bought a truck from Selec of Grand rapids (now in Paw Paw I think) back in 2004 and they were easy to deal with. I paid cash so i did not need their financing, but I did get their warranty, which at the time was a "Premium 2000" that covered everyting including injectors, turbo ect ect. I paid an extra $3,500 for it for 3yr warranty and i only had to file 1 claim, and they denied it stating "driver abuse" which was total BS because the rearend gear actually exploded while I was going 60mph on I-80. I was lucky and able to keep the truck on the road as the tires just locked up. So that cost me $3,500 for a rebuilt housing. So to each their own on the warranty.

But the trucks seem to be ok. Just make sure you do a thurough inspection as they are ALL ex-fleet trucks with lord knows how many drivers in it over it's tenure. Rookies and experienced guys..... good luck on your search.

Just a conduit for the mega fleets to funnel their used garbage to the rubes.

My opinion is they charge too much for this fleet (maintained) abused equipment.

Would you buy worn out sneakers to run a marathon?

Depends on if I thought I was going to win or if I felt I just wanted to play. But yes I get your point

I bought one from them. Warranty is a waste - they will fight tooth and nail on everything. Fortunately mine was just under 500,000 when the EGR and Turbo took a dump so the original Detroit warranty covered them. As someone else said, they are overpriced used fleet trucks. You'd probably pay less and get as good or better truck elsewhere or from an individual. Whatever you do, if you buy a used truck - get it checked out thoroughly.

Not all EX fleet trucks ( that are only leased by MEGA CARRIERS to start with ) they also do have O/O trucks that are repo's. I bought a few in the past , lucked out never had MAJOR problems so never had the warranty nightmares some had to deal with.

Bought my 05 Columbia at Select Trucks of Tampa ,510K , thought I did my homework , boy did they blind side me !! Before you buy that truck , you better have it checked out by a shop you know and trust , do not take their word on anything about said truck , 128 point inspection is a joke , their 60 day buyers assurance is not worth the paper it is wrote on ! After you sign for that truck, you are on your own , and if you made the mistake of buying the extended warranty , as I did , (and I knew better ), you are screwed !! They will not fix anything....,but freightliner will charge you ,in my case , The EGR valve, and it is supposed to be covered !!! Nice Hustle !!! After the third time of getting the run around at $1000 a pop , and nothing fixed,I took a friends advice, " Forget I have a warranty" , so I did. I found an honest shop with very reasonable rates. I will not take my truck to Freightliner repair shop ever again , I still have the EGR problem,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I have spent a whole year straightening out other problems with the truck which were masked.

It's a basically new truck isn't it??? Sell it outright and use cash to buy a pre-2004 truck. Get rid of all the emissions crap and have a nice nest-egg for future repairs on the paid-for truck. It will cost you a lot less !!!

A little to late. Traded that 2012 crap in for a 2009 model Prostar Eagle. C15 that only needed a new fan clutch so far. Got a good amount off the other one, healthy maintenance account. I would've gotton the FLD but he decided it would be better to have a rebuild.
