My buddy just bought a hot-shot setup (F550 and 40' flatbed goose) and was wondering what boards are descent for freight?? He plans on hauling campers out of Elkhart and they trying to find something coming back. I told him he might be better off doing local moves around the Chicago area and suburbs, just couldn't tell him where to look.... any ideas?

I know there is a hot-shot forum on here but it doesn't seem to get much traffic at all, and was hoping you all could help me steer him in a good direction. thanks

To eliminate delay in getting back to his direct freight it might be best for him to load a car or two to get back quickly. Cars are more readily available than other freight in many areas. Most use Central Dispatch to find cars to haul. Autoexpeditor is the place for him to go to find relative info on this subject.

Uship is a teaser deal that just kills allot of time. Who could possibly time winning a bid for the purpose of a back haul. Even after winning a bid the bottom often drops out of the deal and you end up with nothing to haul and much wasted time and effort.

UShip is a WASTE of time and money. Get on Central and be done with it.

First of all don't confuse hotshot with LTL .hotshot loads are time sensite and have to move NOW . The shippers don't have time to fool with load boards and unknown carriers .they call carriers they have experience .
Does your buddy have his own authority or is he going to lease to a transport company ? If he is leased he can't get his own loads . The shipper has to pay the transport company and they will probably get at least 25% of the revenue .

I think several hot shot guys grab LTL's off the load boards.

When you're leased to an RV transport company and they have freight to move, chances are they want you getting back to move some more and not spending allot of time locating and loading a back haul. LTL's can be good, but more difficult to find and generally more waiting involved. A car or two if it's one pick one drop can keep you rolling and not wasting allot of time on your return trip. Most cars will be COD so not a problem with payment issues.

I've used UShip for flatbed loads when I've needed to move stuff really cheap for our maintenance business but for trucking, I've never seen a load paying anything I would want to carry on there. It may be out there but I haven't seen it. I recently needed to ship a flatbed load L.A. to NC with a backhaul NC to L.A. and got quotes down to $.75/mile. Put that same load on ITS for that rate and it wouldn't get touched.

I don't know the best places for your buddy to look but I agree, if he wants to make money, UShip isn't it. UShip is great however for enabling us to see Jennifer in a tight pair of jeans.
