Turnpikes aren't however we'll run them to fox creek or valleyview. Sometimes that's as far as we go other times we split one off and continue with the other, and pikes out to Hinton. The rest is rockies out of Edmonton to places like fort mac, grand prairie, peace river, hay river, and yellowknife. It seems like no matter where we go it's constant grades and constant shifting. Even on HWY 16 to Hinton with pikes at 63K I'm down to about 40kmh when I get to the top of obed and the whole trip from Edson to Hinton it's a real struggle to hold 100kmh. Rockies at 53K climbing the big smoky between valleyview and grand prairie is very similar. I think it's totally different than coasting across the flat prairies.

i think its funny how guys are always saying "go for the big hp". hp doesnt do anything in a truck. its the torque. and in new trucks you get just as much if not more torque then a older truck but you do it at 3/4 the hp so you get better fuel mileage.
daf105paccar Thanks this. -
But you know the thing that is hardest to change in life is attitudes. -
mattbnr and DrtyDiesel Thank this.

There is a correlation between HP an torque. You are not going to get large torque without also getting some higher HP's. True, torque is what puts on over the hill, but there are some advantages to higher HP that can be somewhat beneficial. And also be more economical. There are lot of folks that are putting down some very serious HP and beating the socks off of lower HP setups in fuel mileage. My 12.7 pre-egr Detroit 60 is higher than OEM specs currently by being set at 550 hp and 1850 torque. But I do like the 8 mpg average I can get out of it. Everything is in how you use it. But you have to have it first before you can use it wisely and get good results. The idea that lower HP means better fuel economy is equally a faulty idea.
old time, JPenn, BigJls1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
You have to order the 550hp to get the 2050tq. Only options are 550hp and 600hp.
Truck has been good. Power is good. Had 2 hiccups at the very start. 1 for a nox sensor, the other for the fuel rail pressure sensor. Still breaking so power and mileage are both a wash. Truck gets about 6mpg pulling 5 axle or tridems. Typically 5mpg pulling sets and super b's. Currently only have 60,000km on it. True be told I think the run of mill 500/1850 would have been just as good. Cheaper when you order, cheaper warranty if you want it, and I doubt you'd ever know the difference. -
