I don't believe the loads on those boards are the cream of the crop.

You have to be a member and pay for the load board. Any that are free are not worth a tinker's darn. They check your DOT number for proper authority and insurance requirements. Its not as easy as just browsing a site and calling on a load.

I am going to ask my dispatcher if I can resort to a load board if they can't find me a load so I can avoid an unpaid layover. Any recomendations for a good load board? I haul steel.
The only hang up that I can think of is this...
My company's insurance might not cover us hauling loads that someone just happens to find on a load board. They might only be covered for the usual customers that they haul for. I don't know.
    Any info would be helpful.
    thanks

Most companies wont go for that as those loads are brokered and might not pay what the company sets their rates at. Did that make sense?

    Pete Fuentes Thanks this.

Coolio hit the nail on the head.

Other issues a company looks at. Where is the load going? It may take even longer to find you a load, at your next location.

    Pete Fuentes Thanks this.

Another thing is the trailer situation. Might be already loaded on a brokers trailer and if you are already pulling a company one, where do you leave it? I doubt they are going to unload one to another.

    Pete Fuentes Thanks this.
