I am a truck driver driving for about a year now. I would now like to become an owner-operator, so I am planning on buying a truck to use it for city and line-haul as well. I recently found one that I am particularly interested in, but I am a first-time buyer so I don't have much experience whether this a good deal or not for the truck. Here is some information about it:

    Price- $28,000
    Type- Semi-Sleeper Conventional
    Make- Freightliner
    Model- Century 120 FLC12064st
    Year- 2003
    Mileage- 619853
    Title- Clear
    Condition- Used
    Number of Axles- Tandem
    Enigine Make- Detroit
    Engine Horespower- 370
    Fuel Type- Diesel
    Transmission Type- Manual
    Transmission Speed- 10 Speed Direct
    Suspension Type- Air
    Tire Size- 22

I would like to know whether this truck a good deal for city and line haul since fuel is so expensive. I really appreciate your advice.
    Thank you very much!:biggrin_25514:

how big is the "sleeper".........?? is it a "sit-in" or "walk-in" sleeper....??

a "sit-in" sleeper will be cheaper than a "walk-in" sleeper.

for instance, you go right from the drivers seat to the sleeper, in a 'sit-in" type.

a "walk-in" type, you get to fully stand up and well, walk into the sleeper.

the sleeper size can be a problem in city operations.

next, i hope you have lots of money saved up for the expensive repairs you are going to be getting into shortly. with nearly 700,000 miles, expect them.

the engine/transmission is ok for city work, and some, and i do mean SOME linehaul work. but depending on weights, terrian, and distances, that engine might be under powered at times. you might be able to have it "turned up" by a dealer via the computer management system.

you will want all the maintenance records, and any fluid samples (anaylized) for possible problems.
